~Crown of Clouds~

Through twistings and turnings
of history and mystery
she remains
a steadfast sanctuary
shading and sheltering the valley below

her palatial dignity
clothed in emerald and rock
an arboreal asylum
she holds us in thrall

we've scaled her lofty slopes
and tried to capture her essence
through brush stroke and film

a commanding presence
looming resplendant
each day, she lifts her regal face
to kiss the heavens

adorned with a crown of clouds,
her majestic feet rest in silvery slippers of shale

her vast eminence graces the sylvan surrounds
resonating the grandeur and glory of creation
the mystery of history
lives on in
her magical crown of clouds
~

Ok Lady C....  Where in this world
could this place be?

Such splendor gracing our eyes
of such grandeur and great size
All of a mountain in this veil
at the top of the slippery shale..

When I lived on the east coast, I never realized how beautiful mountains were because I saw them every day.  Now that I live where the land is flatter,  I appreciate their beauty a lot more than I used to

Lyra,

Your descriptions of nature are absolutely amazing. I do believe the study of nature is your forte and your signature.

"A steadfast santuary
shading and sheltering the valley below"

I could go on but, I'd only be repeating the whole poem.

Thanks so much, Electra...
Maybe I should have gone to the city commission and recited poetry instead of kvetching about how they were going to ruin the neighborhood with their stupid business park!
or maybe I should have gotten that into some kind of poetic form and read it to them!
But I don't think they would have understood it anymore than they understood what we did say to them because they never even listened.
I don't know why I am running on about all of that tonight...  I guess it still makes me mad!
But thanks so much for your very kind words

Paul... thank you for your reply...
Riding through clouds is fascinating, but what I described in the poem was seeing the clouds around the mountain top from down below in the valley...
It really looked like a crown.
I have also driven through clouds and it is also a lovely experience
