A day late,  but not a dollar short....this is
for them....

Green lawns of remember
laced with marble memorials.
Silence stalks the fields
of those un-forgotten.

Mighty Oaks spreading their arms
as though inviting all to prayer.

Gentle flights of white and grey
soaring among the clouds above.
Circling, ever weaving, unsettled..
As are the dead lying there.

So many, born and died...
Young, less than 20 years old
Yet, men in heart with the soul
of a courageous child.  For many
became children during their last
moments prior to darkness.
Calling...sobbing “Momma, come
get me Momma!”  “Momma, I
hurt so bad, please!”   Words
that echo in tormented minds of
those that endured, those that went on
to eventual victory....

Today, as is most days, many stand before
a blank window, staring out into a world
now covered in peace.  A tear falling from
a worn and wrinkled face, remembering
moments, remembering buddies that
never came home....Many, wishing they
were there beside them.  Many more
now silent sentinels,   afraid to speak,
still living each horrific moment of those
tragic, war-torn days....in silence...

God bless those who walked in harms way.
Those who carry the fight for freedom.
Those who gave their all that we might...
Might live, might honor them, our
fallen heroes.

This message is to them, to all veterans of all wars.
May their trials never be forgotten, may their
efforts never be thought of as being for naught,
or in vain....

God Bless Our Vets....

Magnus, This is very good. And if we honored them and respected them and helped them, in ways we don't know the need of such, ritually, three times a day, it could never be enough!

For, without them, and the future ones, (I have a son and three grandsons(far future) who might be called and am concerned) we wouldn't and possibly won't have the freedom we have today....and so much more...

Yes, to me if you posted this daily it would not be often enough. Thank you, I think the timing is perfect!

Sincerely,
Pat

Magnus darling heart, you know there is within your words such beauty, and you shade it so delicately and deepen the connection to the heart so skilfully. Wonderful writing darling heart, absolutely wonderful, you know I utterly utterly love this. There is no one I believe who writes of the memories and the feelings this time evokes for all those who know that freedom doesn’t come cheap. Thank you for this amazing poem I love it utterly utterly

Love and warm stuff
As always

Breathe through the heat of our desire
Thy coolness and they balm
Let sense be dumb let flesh retire
Speak through the earthquake wind and fire

It's never to late to pay tribute to them. I was just reading a story in Readers Digest about someone who was trying to find out what happened to his uncle who died at Dieppe. It brought a tear...as did your poem. May we never forget the sacrifices those brave men made for our freedom.

Barry, I almost missed this. A wonderful and loving tribute to our vets. Your description reminded me so much of Arlington National Cemetery. It is such a place of honor and when you walk through it, you swear you can hear the voices of those buried there.

May we always hold in our hearts those who gave their lives for our freedom.

Thank you for writing this.  Hugs, Marti
