We need one million dollars my dear friends.
The Lord commanded me to cough it up
or else he said he'd quickly put an end
to my life whether you liked it or not.

Last night I heard a roaring in my mind
and then a sacred silence-yes profound,
a holy whisper: "In a year of time
a million dollars I'll expect be found!"

Dear friends:
you all know I wish to meet the Lord.
But useless I will be if I now die.
I'd rather stay down here and preach the word.
So please don't ever ask me how or why

Whenever you dig deep into your pockets.
And if you have some Jewelry,
please
go hock it!

Thanks for your reply.
"cull sum chum?"
Does that mean that you think I am soliciting contributions via the poem?

The poem is meant merely as a humorous representation of what sometimes happens in certain religious circles. Everything a poet writes is not always about himself.

The poem "The Ancient Mariner" is not about the poet. It is fiction.

A little slice of life. Easy to read and so very true. I loved the last line. Again, so true. ( you left out property deeds and the like) (big smile)!

Was an enjoyable read as I sat shaking my head yes, that's just how it is.

Thanks,
Warm Regards,
Pat

Rad,

So glad to read you again. Love it! You have a special knack for observing the absurd realities of people and their characters.

Thanks all for the feedback.

This actually happened some years ago and the fella did manage to garner the one million dollars he said he needed in order for God to let him live!  LOL

Glad you enjoyed!
God bless!

Are you asking us to fork it all over, or perhaps you speak with forked tongue, either way you have the implements to make a million bucks - but let me tell you friend those 2,000,000 antlers are killers.

Hey Kethry, I obviously stepped on your toes with this one.  Sorry but I don't agree with fleecing the flock of its--er--wool. So, yes, the poem is critical of that particular approach to the--er--ministry--if you can really call it that. Sorry if I hurt your chances of pulling in the dough. But I believe in exposing this type of thing in a subtle way. What better way than poetry--right? Sorry if you are offended but not everyone shares your particular brand of --er--"Christianity"

Hi Furlong!

Actually, it was meant to be both serious and humorous. It is a bit comical how some persons can sit through a speech like that, believe it--and actually dig into their pockets to come up with the dough in order to save their minister's life cause God said he would take it! Don't you agree? Remember the film "Oh God" starring George Burns playing the role of God and how that minister was only interested in money? I found that humorous.

But of course some will become offended if you point things like that out to them even if it is true sometimes. But, what can you do?

Glad you enjoyed.
Thanks for the feedback
God bless!

(big hugggssssssss) God Bless You, sweet friend, yes, you only get what you give and if we keep giving these trinkets of faith and encouragement we have in our pockets and from our heart together the world can only be a better place and we will all feel closer to God inevitably! (sigh) This is touching, sweet friend, I love it, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Radrook, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Hi Kethry!
My apologies.
I have no way of knowing you are joking  unless you put a smiley.

Sorry again.

God bless!
