(Here is one of my vintage posts, from early 2000, when I first started writing poetry on aregular basis and when my style used to be a lot more somber! This no longer applies to me, as now I have nothing but sweet dreams of my Joanna, but sometimes the memories sadden me! )

(Hanky-Alert)

Narcolepsy
By: Noah Eaton
2/7/00

I am awake,
but I am unconscious
There are termites in my grave,
I watch as my sigh diminishes

And my instincts go through a caprice
My soul is epigeal, where my bones are at rest
And I try not to close my eyes
I try to avoid the undertow
But it's all too much for me
I am a victim of Narcolepsy again tonight
Fading into another netherworld...

I keep the Mickey Mouse nightlight on before I go to bed
Wearing a liripipe from my neck to my head
In fear some guillotine may fall against my neck
I rinse cold water on my eyes, trying not to join the dead
I toss and turn
I slowly burn
But it's no use for me
I am a victim of Narcolepsy again tonight
Fading into another netherworld...

My body hangs from some clock tower in a parallel universe
Like in some Anna Akhmatova requiem in reverse
Where some archmage holds a letter of marquee
To allow the demons to do whatever they want to me
And all my prayers to God are said in malapropism
My breath is lost, my heart stops beating in skepticism
And I wait to add salt to this bowl of corpse soup of my dreams
Because there is nothing else I can eat...
Can you imagine what it feels to be helplessly tortured?
Can you imagine what it feels to be tirelessly butchered?
Do you know what it's like to be ruptured?
I lie here in tears all merciless and fractured
And I'm a victim of Narcolepsy again tonight
Fading into another netherworld...

I'm just a sad little boy victimized
By this narcolepsy...

"Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..."

Noah, you've come a long way baby! And BTW, thanx for the hanky alert!

You have grown in so many ways since you wrote this disturbing poem. Love has certainly had a positive affect on your outlook on life---and on your dreams!

Noah,  I am pleased that you are much more
upbeat now than you were then....You have
grown markedly since I first met you...

Noah~I'm so pleased this frightened child has grown into a fine and talented young man.  It's good to know this is in the past.

OOOHHH, Noah. This poem is SOOOOO sad. It was
a well written poem, but I'm so glad that
you're happier now with Joanna. Now you write
like you're happy as a beautiful butterfly
flying around in the sky.
Thanks for sharing with us, Noah.

Love makes the world go 'round (unkown)
with love and hugs from Ethel

Noah,

This is indeed a very sad poem, but I too am very thankful to know the happy and vibrant Noah of today. You are such a good friend to me.

forget the bad and remember the good Noah. You have grown so well, and we all love you, you know that. Please don't let these memories hurt you. You are too kind to carry these thoughts.
