WHY? WHAT  HAPPENED?
by Ethel

I saw a little girl standing
on the street
With the saddest eyes of anyone
I ever did meet

Why?  What Happened?

I saw a very young Mother with a
baby in her arms
So very young, yet she'd lost so
much of her charms

Why?  What Happened?

There was an old man I saw in
the grocery store
He was so feeble, and a sad, sad
face he wore

Why?  What Happened?

There was a little widow who just
wanted to talk
So lonely and so feeble, so frail
she could hardly walk

Why?  What Happened?

There are so many people in this
world of ours today
Who need the help of others, yet don't
know how to say

Why?  What Happened?

To see others needs without them
having to ask
Friends, would that be such a
very hard task

In yesteryear everyone always
helped one another
Even when they weren't a blood
sister or brother

There are only two questions I'd like
you all to ponder
Just two questions answers about
which I do wonder

Why Not Now?!?  What Happened?!?

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Ethel, this is so very heartbreaking, sweet friend, I too don't understand how we all can't reach out and help like before in the same way always and how so many fall in so little time and are helpless in this capitalist society! (sigh) I wish for all to reach out to everyone and offer loving care, sweet friend, this is heartfelt, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Ethel, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Excellent questions Ethel!! I wish more people would care about others. Sometimes it's hard to know who to approach, we've conditioned ourselves to stand apart from everyone. Unlike years ago when we really helped each other out. I enjoyed your poem.

Garysgirl,

I absolutely love this poem! You speak volumes about the change society has gone through over the years and how it has not been for the better. Thank you so much for sharing.

You are not only a participant in life, you are an observer of it!

You see not only with your eyes, you see with your heart.

P.S. Hope your weekend went well!

Thank you PoetDevine. I really appreciate your stopping by to read my poem and to reply to me. You are a very talented poet. Yes, in today's world, there is so much crime and violence that many innocent people have to suffer.....in  LOTS  of ways.

You sound like you're a very caring and giving person.   If we can't be there in heart and soul for all we meet, then let us be there for the few that we can.  This was a lovely and thought-provoking write.  Thank you!

Thank you so much, Auguste, for your kind words. I appreciate them. Yes, I hope that I can help every person I come in contact with...no matter how small it is. Sometimes  just a kind word helps a person more than we ever realize.
Love To All,
Ethel

Indeed - Why not now?  We all need to take some time to remind ourselves of the basics in life.  Nicely said, Ethel...

Brilliant questions this morning Ethel and one that needs a lot of soul searching from each of us.

Our world might not be in the mess it's in, if these questions didn't need to be asked.

I love a poem that's more than just fluff.   Hugs, Marti

I really like this one.....it touches on a topic that not many people take the time to think about. There is one that I wrote for a youth centre here in Toronto.  It's in the Teen Poetry, called Beat the Street.  It's a little different. But thanks for sharing Ethel, I really enjoyed it.

I have often wondered this myself. I always do whatever I can to help someone. But, there are so many people who just do not seem to care.

What happened?...the answer is easy gal...We've become greedy. We don't care for anyone but ourselves these days...There are more millionaires today than ever...there's more strife and sorrow and people with hardshlps these days than ever. We live in a world of "look out for yourself" type attitudes..moral decay, pornography, corruption, and alot of people care but do nothing at all for their fellow man. We have presidents that run around on their wife, but it's okay, we have an internet now that will bring up any kind of filth you could imagine...we have TV that makes cold blooded murder an every day thing...we have people with no home, no food, can't even feed their children and then we have zillionaires that horde all their money?....Yep...What happened?....

this poem created quite a discussion here ethel...perhaps this where we start to make a difference by talking about the social injustice we see...poetry can be an instrument influencing social awareness and bring about change...thank you for tweaking our consciences.

Stephanie.....Thank you so much for reading my poem and for your kind comments. I appreciate it.

Donna...Thank you, sweet lady. I appreciate your comments.

Sue.....Thank you very much for your comments. You have a very caring spirit.

Mr. Toe.....You are completely right. I do believe that lots of people would do more for the needy, though, if they knew what to do. Don't you?

Scorpio....Thanks for your reply. As I said before, I honestly believe that more people would help others in desperate need if they knew exactly how. But, if we only look around, there are so many of the needy right in our own towns and neighborhoods who are afraid to ask for help.

Thanks very much for all of your kind words and caring spirits.
Love To All,
Ethel
