“WHAT YOU DO”
by
Bill Charles
~~~~
When my mind was in turmoil,
I stumbled, fell into a crevasse…
My life passed by me, darkness,
you said softly, it would pass…
When my heart was in pieces,
I cried tears, deeply inside…
Grief came to my being, wounding,
you stayed with me, alongside…
When my body shook with pain,
I lay hurting in that damn bed…
Things were flowing into my veins,
you held me close, as I bled…
Your essence you gave me freely,
with only thoughts to begin anew…
I sensed, as your spirit entered me,
all of your caring, this, what you do…
I once stood by someone for many years and took care of him.  It is a wonderful feeling when you get someone who will take care of you and make you #1 in their life.
Bill...The essence of love is in the giving, in the healing.  I'm happy that you had such a person as this to be with you and comfort you while you were in your dark place. A beautifully expressed poem...it spoke to my heart and soul.  ***Ivy Rose
BC, I have to say that I agree with Ariana...I also gave many years to someone I can only describe here as, well, they won't let me write the word!  Too bad people can't see what lies right before their eyes, and instead choose to search elsewhere!!  Nice poem.
I find that there is only one way out of turmoil created by ones-self, never lean on others, extract the digit and be like a pair of curtains - pull yourself together, only you have the answer as to how you got there, and only you can remedy matters.   So why inflict your self induced pain on those who you care for?   Sorry if this sounds harsh - but I live in the REAL world.   Fantasy is great in poetry, but fantasy has never solved any problems.    Kind thoughts.......John
Magnus - yes indeed, it is a gift...
vandana - thank you for stopping by...
Enchantress - thank you for your reply.
Ariana - Yes, I always thought that being first in someone's life once very meaningful. Sometimes one doesn't feel that they are...
Ivy Rose - I agree with you that love is in the giving and the healing. Thank you for understanding...
scorpio - someone waiting, what a nice feeling if they are. I always say, 'follow ones heart'.
Charisma - yes it is a blessing to have a caring person beside one. Thank you for reading this write...
SimplyGold - thank you golden one...
Mistletoe Angel - your warm replies always touch me Noah...
Sunnyone - I think I know the words that you wish to use, but they won't go well here, as you mentioned. Thanks for the reply...
Music Maker - well, there is only one way out of turmoil created by oneself, but all of us are not as strong as you seem to be. Pulling oneself together is fine, yet if you were to read something on the subject it isn't always possible without help. Harsh? Not really, but I also live in the REAL world that you so describe. Of course what is the REAL world really? A lot of authority you say here. Oh, one more thing, fantasy is great in poetry, but at times poetry is real life. Try it some time, you may change your attitude. Oh forgive me if you would, I don't mean to sound harsh...
This is a gem of a poem, Bill...
I took care of my first husband for a year and a half while he suffered from cancer...
and I feel unbelievably fortunate that he was watching me from wherever he is now... and saw that I would need someone to take care of me... and he sent me David...
He certainly made an excellent choice here... I don't think he couldv'e done a better job.  And I just know that he sent David to me, because every once in a while, David will say something and it will be something that only Monty (my first husband) would have thought of...
Isn't life strange?
Bill, this was a very tender poem. I agree with you. I liked it. Thanks for sharing, too. In regards to one of your comments....I also feel that "fantasy" is great in poetry. But I like to be able to really "feel" a poem and When it is written from "real Life" experiences, I FEEL it more. Thanks, again.
With Love To All,
Ethel
Well Bill,
I love this poem. And life CAN be exactly as you have written here. Pity those who have to fantasize about such experience. Well done.
