The Butchers Bill

A whistle blows
down in the smoke
young men begin their work
broken bodies cast away
the death factory starts to wake
churning out broken hearts
on blood stained paper
the slaughterhouse receipt
"a terrible price"
weighs the heavy butchers bill.

Inspired by "The West Wall" a book by Charles Whiting. The death factory refers to Hurtgen Forest and the battle for the Siegfried Line. The Siegfriend line stalled the Allied Forces for nearly six months and is estimated to have cost and additional 500,000 casulties as Allied commanders threw their troops against the wall.

Dude, that actually reminded me of the coal mines in the Maritimes of Canada. Interesting how my perspective can be so different than yours.
Congrats on 3000... you're catching up to me *grins*

Eh, somehow you wrote this quite morbidly... the imagery is almost grotesque, but quite admirable.   You did a good job on this one, Zu.

Congrats on 3k.

Fabulous job, Zu. I'm quite impressed with this piece as you've got some kick ass imagery happening. Like Brian said, it is grotesque and for that alone I love you. Honestly, it's a brilliantly written bit of poetry.

Congratulations on the 3000th post. Have a candy bar.

Short and sweet, just like a certain russain I know! Hehe

Way to go Zu---like LP said, you managed to mangle every line, to your own grotesque delight!

All I do, is think about you...

This is quite gruesome, but thats what you were going for! SO... good job!

Congrats on 3000, my friend. I'm sure we all want to see 3000 more.
