'Tis the wee hours of the morning.
All is still save for his soft, rhythmic breathing.
He has traded his tormented wakefulness for a more
tranquil existence.
In this blissful state of freedom, his aging,
crippled body rises up from his earth-bound self,
thereby assuming whatever carefree form he may.
Gone are the harsh realities of life's unfulfilled
dreams, and the pains and frustrations which,
while awake, must be endured........

His breathing is deep and even now.
Gone are the furrowed brow, the pressed lips.
The worry lines are more relaxed, less severe.
Is it not one of life's greatest ironies that
peace prevails the closer we are to death?
Is there not a parallel to be drawn between the
state of sleep and that of our mortality?
Perhaps we ought not fear the inevitable which,
in the end, may provide the eternal state of grace.

Graceful writing, Earth Angel, but why are you screaming the title at me? Grace...

(big hugggssssss) Oh Linda, I always face the inevitable because my past is filled with too much grief and pain and I still wait for all my dreams to come true and to meet Joanna and live happily ever after! (sigh) This is a wonderful thought, sweet friend, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Linda, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

I wrote this poem during the middle of the night while I was sitting with a private patient of mine. As he lie there sleeping I was struck by how peaceful he appeared and by how much younger he looked than when he was awake.

Earth Angel

I think you are right in your thoughts...my husband had a near death out of body experience...he said it was bliss when his heart stopped for those few minutes.  I like the way you write with your heart in your thoughts.
