Between midnight thoughts

0 posted 2002-08-23 10:58 AM

In the still of the night,
Or so they say,
The city springs to life,
From it's restful day.
A great mythic beast,
It breathes, tensing its muscles,
Stalking, feeding it's appetites,
In the dim smokey alleys,
On youthfull rebellion and scheming parasites.
Towering skyscrapers bear silent witness,
As countless fragile little souls,
Mingle and separate,
Falling together and falling apart.
Somehow,
They all experience the delight and lonliness,
Hope and despair,
Believing
That no other living soul,
Can understand how they feel.
I know what i feel..
I feel the darkness,
Seductively slithering around me,
Embracing my existance,
Moving through me,
It is an extension of my soul,
And I of it.
I am home...
Even in this house..
At night, I am home.
In the sanctuary of the unlit,
I am nurtured.
In my cloak of darkness and solitude,
I find solace.
Between the shadows,
I find myself.

Powerful words and images here. So often these images invoke discomfort, eerieness. Amazing that you find such peace and solace in them.

I know what i feel..
                        I feel the darkness,
                        Seductively slithering around me,
                        Embracing my existance,
                        Moving through me,
It is an extension of my soul,
                        And I of it.
                        I am home...
                        Even in this house..
                        At night, I am home.
In the sanctuary of the unlit,
                        I am nurtured.
In my cloak of darkness and solitude,
                        I find solace.
                        Between the shadows,
                        I find myself.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Gabriel

I love shadows...they are like play, and although the dark is desperate for some, for me it is just rest from day.  I enjoyed your poem...thanks for the inspire!

You're very welcome Madame Chipmunk!
Your pleasure is mine.

OH, Bill, the poem about my Indian princess is still in my mind, i'm hesitant to put it on paper i guess, because i want it to be so perfect..*sigh*
