By the sea

Stumble of pain, struggle of breath,
postponing,
not
surviving death.

Too many colors on a palette,
changes hue.
Diverse, perverse,
I have no clue.

Marital bliss, dead-heart kiss?
Straight-faced lies multiply to point of drown.
The shrink from embrace.

To rest in bed...
to rest, but not to sleep,
to feel and watch the body weep.

Solitary confinement...
for life.

Which cane, which cane, which cane to use?
Sugar cane?
Walking cane?
Bamboo to climb,
to whip?
How many more lashes must I take?

I saw lightning in bird's nests yesterday.
The eggs,
cooked,
fattened predators of the innocent.
They always do.

A single firefly this year.
How well I could empathize with its plight,
its lonely flight,
as I dripped blood,
scraping barnacles from the hull
of Susan’s Rain.

The ocean mumbled two days ago
until I saw it catch its breath
and SHOUT!
Resting on my side,
I sifted shells
and kept watch
on an empty chair.

Michael

I think this is one of your best.  I feel like you let go of constrain..and let out the power of your thought, and the emotive feel is very real and touching and strong.  Also, the subtle rhyme and rhythm was very well done.  Kudos to you, my friend...and a hug!!

Michael..this outpouring of feelings reduced me to tears.
Maybe it's just me and the gray day here..
or perhaps..perhaps there is more...
something that I totally undestand.
A fantastic write m'friend.

A heartfelt write indeed. Well done. Chris

(big hugggssssss) Oh Michael, this is so powerfully heartaching, this gave me a lonely vision of the sea, I hope everything is alright and the emptiness has disintegrated within! (big hugggssssss) This is excellent, sweet friend, I love it and have missed you so much, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Michael, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

This is simply a delight. Most definately one of your best. Enjoyed the read very much.

And glad I am that Martie bumped this back up.  I don't believe I've ever seen this free of verse from you, Michael...its intensity is breath-taking...

and I would see more, when you are so inclined!

My god, this just aches and is so vivid in it's outpour.  Michael, sad to say, but, I can relate...and yes, each case is different, I know.  You've penned something so unique from your usual style and it's powerful!  Yes, this is one of your best.

Take care...email me if ever you need me okay?
