Staves & Caves
September 14, 2002
Copyright 2002 Doug Pretorius

I'm offered up to hide
the pain you've left inside
not to wonder or question why
tonight is what tomorrow brings
blocked out by sealing rings
in and out your vision fades
designed the way your soul was made
I offer again to lie
about how you threw off your ties
even as they descend on all sides
no less than the whole night sings
crying out to show your wings
we cover our faces with handmade caves
while you fly off to some other stave

Very nicely done, Doug. It literally flies down the blue page.

Interesting word choices...the feeling of floundering in grief...well written.
