For Evil To Triumph

Why should we bother its not our fight
Meanwhile hearts are shattered
Splattered with the blood of innocence
Tell that to the child who sobs
The tears of fear falling
In rivers of torment
Tell that to the woman
Who lies alone waiting
For the return of her soul
This isn't your fight so turn away
Refuse to help again

Why should we send our boys there?
Meanwhile the clouds of sorrow gather
The fear that stalks the land spreads
Direction and hope fade
Each morning the sun rises on a land
Wracked with horror
The sky is open
Pain rains down
In an unending torrent
But its not our fight so turn away
Refuse to see the need again

Why should we help this isn't our problem
Meanwhile truth lies twisted and torn
Across a land littered with hate
The rivers run with the blood
Of the innocent
Tell the mother who has watched her
Last child die in agony
Tell that to the man who
Lies dying in utter despair
Watching all he owned taken from him
Why should we help?
It isn't out problem
We aren't responsible for this land

When does this become our fight?
The day the fire fell from our sky
The day they bought it
To our doorstep
We should have fought the evil
We should have prevented this
But we didn't because it wasn't
Our fight.
We know better now

Every single time evil walks anywhere
It is our fight
Every time innocence is killed
By the evil of war
It is our fight
Every time truth is betrayed
It is our fight
Real peace can only come
If we realise that evil walks here
And cannot be allowed to grow
Peace and harmony can only be
When evil is destroyed

It is necessary only for good people
To do nothing for evil to triumph

Krissy, this is well said, and very true. But not so easy to implement, you know.

Krissy, you should be proud of your nation's long history of NOT saying "its not our fight" and standing victorious against evil (sometimes standing alone).  Your poem is truly appreciated!

My wonderful and beautiful Krissy, how lucky I am to have given birth to you. When your head was born but the rest had yet to appear you were screaming at that precise moment. Paul waited a good five mins before he sort of sighed and went straight to sleep, you however made sure everyone knew you had arrived. The doctor cleaned you up as they tend to do, and then handed you not to me who’d struggled to give birth to you for endless hours but to your father. (Who had by this point come around from the fainting fit and was now upright though a little groggy) And you took one myopic look at him and screamed even louder, not knowing what to do he handed you to me, and I looked at your red and screwed up face and fell totally under your spell. This rather long-winded and rambling tale which you’ve heard in parts but never all, is simply to tell you darling heart. I am as proud of you and your ability to share your heart now as I was proud of your first breath. As I say I am lucky. Having you in my life is a gift and I thank you for it.

By the way my darling child, you can now cease writing so well, it really is unseemly to upstage your mother. Nor is it necessary to be so good at free verse. I forgive you only because you are you xxxxx

Love you always and more

Love and warm stuff
as always

Breathe through the heat of our desire
Thy coolness and they balm
Let sense be dumb let flesh retire
Speak through the earthquake wind and fire

That was the perfect quote that you selected for the end of this important message of yours---which, by the way, was very well done!
