The little light was blinking-
There on my telephone...
So I'd received a message,
Today while I was gone.

I didn't recognize the voice-
It said, "You knew my son-
I really hate to tell you,
That last night he ate his gun"!

She told me who she was then-
And I recalled him well.
We'd served in 'Nam together...
We'd both done our time in Hell.

We'd worked for the same agency-
And lived a lawman's life...
All it cost me was my soul,
But him, his kids and wife.

I guess it is a hazard-
When you're in that line of work...
It makes a man a cynic...
And most say that I'm a jerk...

But self destruction's not my style-
Nor suicide my forte...
For life and death is but a game...
Survival is a sport.

Very well written serious piece. Chris

A great write about a very serious issue. My husband also did time in VietNam and is a wreck at times because of it. You handled this subject very well in this piece.

(big hugggsssssss) Oh John, I am so very sorry to hear this, I know how Vietnam hurt so many who went there and saw everything and my heart goes out to your friend, though I too don't believe in suicide anymore either! (wipes tears) My thoughts are with you, sweet friend, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet John, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

A powerful write.

Battle not with monsters lest ye become a monster, and if you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you. - Friedrich W. Nietzsche
