Once upon a life time ago
she held happiness in her heart
but as time drifted on to fade
the light inside slowly made it's depart.

Throughout the years of turmoil
she faced many moments of strife
and gradually the dark clouds moved in
to shroud all forms of joy from her life.

Over the years the pearls of happiness
were stripped of their beautiful hue
until finally the sheen was gone
leaving her with nothing but the blue.

She walked the pathways of life
for her there was no shining light
she couldn't see her shining star
through the darkness of the night.

Her heart only held bittersweet sorrow
left inside there was no more glad
for on the day that he broke her heart
she had become the lonely mistress of sad.

Donna,
I'm going out on a limb here...but I think that broken hearts from loss have some things in common. If it's death or broken relationships I believe both have to make a choice about moving on and finding happiness. Just a thought not meant to offend as I know a proper amount of grieving helps to heal.

I agree, everyone has to make that choice.  I guess some people are just timid about moving on, or just don't desire to, or are unsure of themselves, or afraid...or.....  This was just a thought that occured to me as I see so much sadness in the world, at times mine included, although for different reasons.  Hugs to you doll, hope you are well.

"Oh Donna"... *Nancy pauses, looks out the window
and reflects on the song that popped into her head, and smiles*

Now you just know that this one is being carefully slipped into my library for someone special who would love to see this.

Thank you sweetie...
this is SO well done!

Yes Nancy....I know, I've been there and am often still there more than I would like to be.  As for the song........will have to think on that one, perhaps one I am not familiar with.  Peace to you.
Hugs to you sweet lady friend

Donna, I wish I did not understand this so well.
The expression of emotion here is very powerful.

oh, my, "the mistress of sad"

truly I have seen persons who are just that, in fact if honest with myself, I spent some time with such a 'title'

May it never become a monacle of yours or mine for long.

I'm glad I read your response to Larry.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Donna,  truly a sad poem, yet a very very
beautifully written poem.  I too...am pleased
this is not of yourself, though I am sure
WE all have been down this path...Myself
included...

Thanx,

Donna...I agree with Larry on this one.  A loss from a death is very comparable to a romantic loss.
I have lost 2 very precious loved ones during the past 3 years...my first husband and my older son...and I too, sometimes feel like "the mistress of sad"

I loved your poem...

~ big comforting hugs for your sadness

Thanks all.  I think that sometimes everyone has their share of sadness, and at times people almost get locked into it.  Just an idea I was playing with at lunch the other day.  Hugs to all.

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Donna, this is so very sad but touching, sweet friend, I believe everyone hurts sometimes like Michael Stipe of R.E.M sings, for when I was a boy I was depressed every single day and cried against walls endlessly until I began to become accustomed with God! (sigh) This is sad but touching, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Donna, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Have faith, there are more stars out there than black holes of despair, beyond the temporary shield of clouds of little substance.

Although poignantly sad, this is a very well constructed poetic story.
I enjoyed it.  *s*

How do I know that I am happy in my life?  Simple, I KNOW what sad feels like.

Soft and gentle expression of the turmoil that so many cast upon themselves.  Very well written and presented.  I enjoyed much.
