Marge - thanks for the inspiriation with your poem to Noah (and his Ark). Weather conditions where I live are just the opposite!

Looks Like Fire

Winter was a soft,
soaking season;
and Spring stayed
long enough to fool
poppies and people
into thinking
it was Summer.

Those emerald grasses
have had time enough
to turn crispy brown,
surrounding the oily Blue Oaks
like licks of flame.

Summer is sly,
hiding behind marine layers,
waiting for July
before springing upon the land
with hot breath;
it likes to stay awhile,
to smolder in the tar
and shine its reflection
in windshields of cars,
to suck all moisture dry
with a thirsty throat.

Summer dances with the winds
and kicks up dust with rough,
hard heels.

And the old timers say:
Looks like fire.

(smiles) Oh Corinne, this is sooooooo beautiful, I love oah's Ark (guess I'm kind of biased because I have the same name as the hero of the story!) LOL! Your words, while they speak of a sadness of drought, wonderfully depict the hope within for a flood, sweet friend, I LOVE IT, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Corinne, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Corinne

I know just what you mean..it is scary..the lack of rain and the dryness..this old timer is one of those that says, looks like fire.

Very well done!

Superb!!! You have painted a desert like ours, here in eastern Oregon, only maybe just a tad hotter and dryer, I hope, than it is here.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.
