I am your mother and father
she used to say
I got used to growing that way

Dad died when I was young
could hardly remember
owe an upbringing to Mom
in spite of short tempers

Dad was the anchor, keeper of the keys
would help with my learning, Mom was pleased
sit behind an newpaper in the livng room corner
I would approach like little Jack Horner

Mom remembers dates
when dad did so and so
still anchored to the past
still tries to make mornings last

She knows that under bridges, waters flow
as in her eyes memories often glows
a mother and a father she used to be
we grew up well, her clutch of three.

We all miss you still one by one
appreciate your hard work under setting suns
the years have passed and we have all grown
follow the path you laid down and shown.

Very nice tribute to your Father!
Some wonderful sentimental lines in this piece.....I really enjoyed it.
Sounds like a great Mom too!

A lovely tribute to your Mother and your Father....
It sounds like you had a wonderful set of parents....I am so sorry that your Father died so young, but it sounds as if you remember him quite well...and thats very important.
I worry about my grandaughter, Dasha because she was only 7 when her Dad died, and her Pa Pa...my first husband had only died the year before.  I know she remembers them well because she talks about them all the time, but I hope that the 2 deaths so close together didn't traumatize her.

~ happy father's day......I know you aren't a father...but maybe someday you will be

wonderful words for them both.  My dad was my mom also in all ways, so I understood this one.  well done.

I could have missed the pain, but I'd have had to miss the dance~~(Garth)

As a mother trying to be a father also.....I hope I do as great a job as your mother did. Thankyou for allowing me the gift of reading this.

Thankyou all for sharing,

Gentle Spirit,Marilyn

when one parent plays both roles, the task is enormous I think.

Lyra,

I think traumas like that largely occur when the child is not loved, I hope that her Mom is looking after her well.
