My stepfather passed away in 1999. I wrote this about the experience that happened afterward when my mother found the only Mother's Day card he ever gave her. I still remember her face that day and it always and forever will warm my heart. I thought I'd share it here.

Every year on Mother's Day
we would always hear him say
I love you, but I've no gift
no pretty card to give you a lift.
You're not my mother, just my wife
the woman who shares my life.
This year he died just two days
before it was Mother's Day.

When she went through his cluttered desk
there hidden deep amongst the mess,
in a pink envelope addressed in blue
with the three words, I love you,
was something she never expected to see
she looked in wonder, what could this be?

Her hands were shaking as she cried
opening the envelope to find inside
a Mother's Day card from the man she loved
as if he'd sent it from up above.
I saw her smile then through the tears
though this the only card in 25 years
it was the only one she needed to receive
she never doubted his love, she always believed.

Oh this brought on the tears, Anne...
They poured torrents down my cheeks.
My first husband died in 99, also...
and when I was moving into my condo from our house...I had to go through all of his stuff.
He had kept every single card that I had ever given him.....for any occasion, and he had them all neatly filed away in his desk.  Interestingly....I also kept all of his cards.
You wrote this beautifully

These are the stories of real life that I so enjoy reading, and which confirm for me that Yes, Miracles Happen!
