This probably cannot stand alone without an introduction. It was inspired by a poem discussing how mathematics has eaten up the beauty and life of art. One particular section spoke of creating an exact replica of the Mona Lisa via a computer completely replicating the brush strokes. You may read that poem, by Dimon, at Artistry...www.voy.com/1001

And, oh, the calamity of it all.

Machinization Prolification

might it then be
as satin
or silk flowers
pleasing to the eye
safe to touch
yet
they do not touch back
they are not impressed
by our caresses
they need not water
nor food
merely the sucking up
of the dust
that threatens to
dim their beauty

they do not hinder
of themselves
the breathing presence
around them
no pollen drifts
from their stamen
nor life from their
pistols
they do not
even fire blanks
into the air

comforting to the asthmatic
or s/he of allergies galore
yet, can they really touch a heart
can they really
reach the soul

we even attempt
to give them a living scent
sometimes
clamoring, crying for a touch
of reality
out of their artificial
presence

shall we make stones
create clones
that have not had
the blessing of God's
hand
of His breath of life
or do they?
can we know
here
on this plane?

I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

It has much to say
about natural selection
and why we should leave
well enough alone, doesn't it,
Virginia?

Thank you for this...

...One day Humankind will get so swept up in their technological insanity that we will all be replaced by nothing more than walking talking robots; perfectly made, great at their job, exactly the same as every other robot; yet with no identity, no real intelligence, no emotion - It's already started, what is a mathmatician if they arn't virtualy robots ? I for one don't like it, I want to be me and have the freedom to be creative, even if it can't match up to the dot-matrix print of a computer !!! ... I loved this poem, absolutly great; as usual VAS you bring forward a view point well worth discussing .
