Love adds at times a poison in it's price
thus weakened we are easily possessed
so oft' described as virtue, it's a vice

It's fragrant scents allure us with sweet spice
the subtle air of pleasure it suggests,
Love adds at times a poison in it's price

Babbeled couplings such as "awful nice"
bamboozle ears through soothing tones caressed,
so oft' described as virtue, it's a vice

And blinking eyes short cut brain's thinking twice
tunneled vision we pant in lust undressed,
Love adds at times a poison in it's price

We sow our oats and reap fool's paradise
and gourge on trust whose tapeworm we ingest,
so oft' descibed as virtue, it's a vice

But once we feel it's soft warm merchandise
it's there addiction seals the deal, obsessed,
Love adds at times a poison in it's price,
so oft' described as virtue, it's a vice

You're absolutely right, but once addicted, what can a body do? I love your poem. I love to read villanelles, and writing them is tough. Very well done.

(smiles) Oh Richard, this is excellent, sweet friend, yes, love is indeed an addiction and a poison part of the time but when we get to understand it and have that tourniquet of hope to stay firm to its beauty, it can be such a beautiful thing! (sigh) This is wonderful, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Richard, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

You make reading a villanelle pleasant, and I know they are difficult to create...you make it seem worthwhile...
