Sometimes A River

Touch me friend of night beneath this midnight sun
Lend me the words I have but can't seem to express
Share your light of diamonds hanging brilliantly overhead
Hold to the heavens the thoughts I write so I may rest...

I know it's one of these stars she can surely see, too
So, which one do I kneel to here so she will know somehow
That within these hills there's a woman reaching for what she can't have
But, give me one good reason, God, her Mama must be on this ground?...

A little light can go a long, long, way if it was ever mine to keep
But, the night plagues me with her memory in my darkest hour
Oh my God what do I do when there's so much sky between us
Cause, envy haunts my heart that another holds my sacred flower...

In the midst of my sensitive valley I do cry a tear or two
But, Lord knows sometimes a river
Forgive me if I doubt the night ever lends her my hands
But, only you, God, know it's always extended for her...

Why must I really die before my time
When mere fragile plays my days anymore
Should my tender heart be broken once again
Would one know what the endless stream of waters are even for?...

So, in the midst of my sensitive valley I do shed a tear or two
But, Lord knows sometimes a river
Touch me friend of night, I'm still waiting, beneath this midnight sun
For in depths of sadness sometimes a river flows for her...

It must be hard to express the sorrows of womanhood, and what should naturally be ours,
I hope that you are spared further pain and that life will be gentler for you

Sauni, as your river of sadness runs swift and deep, I pray to God in heaven to guide you through your rapids of sadness. Please hang on for dear life, for she needs you as much as you need her. Enjoy your moments together and always know that soon, she'll be back for a few more moments. And soon you can light her birthday candle, and she can make a wish. Soon, Sauni, just hang on with every ounce of energy you can muster. And know that my prayers are always with you. Just hang on, Sauni; just hang on for her sake.

Saunni,
Seldom do we know the source of our rivers. But a river of heartache is sad to see. May you find peace...
