This is meant to be both serious and cutsey,
so please do not get offended,
it's dedicated to those who pass judgement
upon what they know very little about

I Stand On Guard For Thee

I live in a house, not an igloo
get it straight, I don't say 'Eh!'
I am not obliged by the fourth of July,
I celebrate Canada day!

We have provinces, not states,
by the way, it's zed not zee,
we don't solely consume beer and bacon,
we do more than just hockey

We don't say 'aboot' instead of about,
frostbite is not a cause of demise.
We're mostly English, not French,
we are peaceful, dilligent and wise

I don't own a pair of snowshoes
nor a coat lined with fur,
I drive a car not a dog sled,
these are myths, I concur

For, your preconceived notions
can never crush my soul,
this is Canada the magnificent,
it is not the North Pole

We're blessed with all four seasons
not winter all year round
we have the seventh wonder of the world
and walk on heaven's ground

We have a primeminister, not a president,
get yourself an education!
Only then will you know the truth
and the beauty of my nation

You try to shackle me with lies
as a slave to your ignorance,
I'm sure that your country is great
but let go of that arrogance!

Much of what you claim is false,
simple minded jealousy,
I'll strut my stuff against your stereotypes
as you pout incessantly

All I can say is 'duh!'
Don't diss my grace of birth!
Gawd, how dense can you be?
Welcome to planet earth!

Welcome to reality,
I'll shout it loud and clear!
I'll defend her name 'til the end,
this land I love so dear

Nyah, nyah, I'm a Canuck!
'Tis a boast you can't subside,
you can't silence the glory
of a heart that's filled with pride

I come from a priceless place
the home of strong and free,
O Canada, Utopia,
I stand on guard for thee
with hand over chest, devoted to the death
forever to inhale sweet majesty's breath

(smiles) Oh Melissa, I understand with all my heart what you were trying to get across in your words, and while I am American, I love Canada so very much and dream of spending many vacations up there! (kiss on cheek) This is a beautifully patriotic piece to your nation, sweet friend, I LOVE IT, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Melissa, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Thank you Noah, Susan and Larry ~ It's a poem that just had to be written.  Thanks for indulging in my little rant tee hee! I'm just in a sassy mood tonight.

My mom always says that when I was born I came out with a Canadian flag in my hand and a head full of brown hair. LOL
You see, I'm probably the proudest Canadian and brunette that ever lived   My friends and family here will certainly agree.

I am glad that no one is offended, especially the Americans. I was worried that I might ruffle some feathers and I would never want to insult an 'innocent' person.
I just cherish the fact that I reside in a first world nation such as Canada, and I am so tired of all the stereotypes that come along with it.  Thank God that you three are intelligent and kind enough to know the truth

Anyways, I have a silly story for you...which is the icing on the cake as to why I wrote this poem!
My aunt travelled to California and Texas last year to visit two close friends in each state.  When my aunt went to Texas, she was wearing a 'Canada' shirt, and one man in the street screamed out "we don't want any of you Frenchies here, go back to your igloo!"  My aunt rebutted herself with a very clever reply and walked away.
When she went to California, she was walking with her friend and her friend's cousin, and the cousin actually was dumb enough to ask my aunt "do you have forks and Wal-mart in Canada?  And why does it snow in the summer?"  My aunt almost died of shock and laughter.  Anyways, I'll shut up now

Don't worry, I'm not saying that ALL Americans are like this, but, unfortunately there's a few people all over the world even, that are just plain ignorant of the truth.  How sad for us all!

Geez, did I just write a novel hehe

Take care!~

A certain cutie patootie snuck in there while I was writing a novel   hehe

Thanks a million 'Deer!

I've formed many friendships with American poets here, and you're all a breath of fresh air!  Your intelligence, support and sweetness is much appreciated!     Anyways, I hope you know what I mean, don't worry I'm not stereotyping anyone lol

Maybe we can all be proud to be North Americans?

What a wonderful tribute to 'our' country.
I back everything you say 100%!
I have found that in some European countries though when they find out you are from Canada they do treat you royally...
they do love the Canadians....
*Okay, back to my igloo in this 85 degree weather!*
~Big Canadian hugs to you!~

great job Melissa. . . I've always liked Canada. . . been there a few times too. . . it's neat to cross the Ambassador or Blue Water Bridges and into another country. . .

people should know that there's more to Canada than Maple Leafs and hockey. . . there's an entire way of life. . . one that's survived for generations. . .

some of my best friends are Canadian, and they've taught me what it means to be proud of your country, and what your place in the world is. . .

ok, this is way too long. . . but, you know what I mean. . . shine on Canadian jewel. . .

Melissa, I despise abject stupidity, and I thnk Canada seems like a nice place. My Grandma was born in St Camille Quebec, and I want to go there someday.
I am woefully ignorant about Canadian life, but I'm looking for a nicer country.
Think the Canadians would take me??

like this from you, and,
I'm a proud Cdn, but,
you're the proudest one

This   is for everyone who replied!

Enchantress ~ Well my fellow canuck, 'tis a grand country to be proud of isn't it?!
It was 90 degrees today...arrrg, could it be any more humid, it's melting the icicles on my igloo   hehe
They reported in the weather report today that Southern Ontario was hotter than Texas and Louisiana...I just realized that I need to get an inground pool...with exotic men in thongs feeding me grapes

Ceinwyn ~  Thank you, I'm glad that you enjoyed my little ditty.

Sven ~ And that's why you're the sven pen, you genius you!  And I'm glad to call you my friend.

Sandra ~  You've just been named an honourary Canadian by me!  And yes, Canada would gladly take a kind person like you.
And, although Canada and The U.S.A are seperate nations with a few differences, we really are basically the same.

Skyshine ~ Thanks for the read, and yes, misconceptions drive me nuts too!  The funny thing is, when a person stereotypes another, in turn, they end up looking like the fool...that's the best revenge.

Chels ~  I'm naming Canada Day as officially 'my day'     woo hoo I can't wait to 'par-tay,' baby!
