Where Warmth

I sleep longer today,
no reason for being.
Like the sun, you rise
hidden from me,
and all I hear are the birds
in want, trilling nearby,
waiting for the rains to cease.

My body, heavy with care,
burdened with thought,
waiting for something,
anything, not knowing what.

Does it matter in this world of manys,
me being only one?
How insignificant I have become,
of little power, of little meaning,
my meager talents unheeded.

I pat myself on the back,
look at the time,
and crawl back under the covers
where the warmth never leaves.

Oh, I do relate to this as well. But you are not insignificant. I have had a poem in my head along those lines, have to complete it.
See, you inpired me.

I have many times went back to empty covers that absorb me. This is a nice piece.

I tuck myself in and scream at the sheep for counting on me~

I know what you mean but don't be so hard on yourself.  Insignicant?  I think not!!
But those covers come in awful handy when it's too darn cold,  both inside and out!

Maureen, I love this. Would you believe that often I write poetry in the wee hours and then when it's time to get up,

"I pat myself on the back,
look at the time,
and crawl back under the covers
where the warmth never leaves."

And it feels soooooooo good.
