FYI, Odonata=dragonfly, damselfly, pondhawk, darners, and many other common names

Oh, Odonata!

I wait for you each summer
to eat the bloodsucking hummer
that bites me
unmercifully
in the dark,
near gentle streams,
in my yard,
in the park.

Oh, Odonata!

Littlest dragon in the sky,
I wait for you
to fly by.
I adore your jeweled wings.
You are my favorite
emerald sky dancer,
a damsel darner,
a bluet beauty.

Oh, Odonata!

You are the hopes and dreams
of every camper's midnight screams,
and every fisherman and hiker,
the adventurous biker,
and every tender-skinned
sinkhole skinny-dipper
who has been bitten by
a skeeter mouth's sipper!

Oh, Odonata!

I anxiously await
your winged return.

You must have BIG dragon flies in order for them to wrestle those MONSTROUS Skeeters you have there.
I enjoyed this piece tremendously

Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.

Interloper, yes, they are the size of military transport planes, and they compete for sky space with all the planes and copters from Eielson AFB and Ft Wainwright.

Eric, LOL, that's OK, I understand. Maybe I should edit and put (the dragonfly) in the first line of the poem.

Wandering glider, are you morphing into a dragonfly? LOL, thanks for the reply.

Lyra, hugs back, and I sure like that little darner you posted.

Noah, I have a long list of Odonata names, how many more do you want? LOL, this morning we finally had those littlest warriors in the yard, and I think they already took the skeeter population by surprise.

Great ode!! If those dragonflies in Alaska eat up all the skeeters, send them down to Florida. The skeets aren't quite as big here but they breed by the billions, I think.

dragonfly = evinrude

hehehe... that's what my sister's kids call them.

Icequeen, Dragonfly=Evinrude? that is so funny! OK, when the skeeters are gone, I'll send the dragon squad to Florida. LOL, I lived in Tallahassee for four years, and I remember beaucoup butt bites, especially when visiting the sinkholes!

Watch out for the fairies though, don't swat at the Odonata, they are summer transporation for the fae!  Very cute, and believe it or not you are going to love it down here (no little buzzers)

I am the hardy dragonfly
who seldom comes to rest
and from the dawning of the day
flies long among the best

Sharon, I'm sure I'll love it in BC. Do you promise a visit by those cute little faeries?

Glider, that's great! Have fun gliding. This is your ode.
