Paladin's challenge:
"You never really die if you are remembered".

I remember Patsy,
and how she used to yell
at the neighbor kids,
"Get off my lawn!"

And I also remember Patsy
as the jolly one,
who always made fresh cookies,
and always had an extra one
for the kid next door....
even the one who stepped
on her lawn, and picked
her prize flowers.

Patsy is gone
from the physical realm,
but will never be forgotten
by those she touched.

So Paladin,
'tis true,
Patsy is still here,
even though I saw
her ashes sprinkled
on meditation mountain.

And Patsy, I still can't make
macaroni and cheese
as good as yours!
And I can still see
that twinkling smile
and hear
that hearty laugh.

Kacy,
And now I've seen Patsy too! Cool. I sure do like you.

It's never too late to have a good childhood! Woohoo!

LOL, you would have loved her giant smile and laugh. And when she yelled, the ground shook, and the kids ran.

I had a neighbor like that when I was growing up, she was a grouch but I loved her anyway and I know she loved me.  Maybe because I was the only one who ever brought her flowers.  I learned at a young age that one good deed doesn't always deserve another, but it sure makes you feel better.

This was sweet Midnitesun!!

Thanks Blues, glad you are one who knows how to show tenderness, even when the other person is grouchy.

I have had a few neighbours like that... Sweet little old ladies, all of them.
Mrs. McWinnie.  I loved her chocolate chip oatmeal cookies, but she did guard the front flower arrangements like it was gold and she was Fort Knox security.... I liked the remembering. Thanks... Great Write!!!

Love, Light and Peace,

Sherry

Cherish the good memories past and look forward to the adventure called Tomorrow.
But above all... be kind to yourself today.

Sherry, thanks. Your neighbor could have been Patsy's twin soul.

Paladin, thanks for the inspiration, and the memory.

Kacy,

what a nice tale you shared! and paladin's challenge sort of struck a chord as i am rather obsessed with mortality...

Hi Heng! Obsessed with mortality? It's part of reality. W.C. Fields (? or someone) once said we shouldn't make too big of a deal about life, since we'll never get out of it alive. That always gave me a chuckle and grin. Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts.

Nice saying!

maybe i should share this ancedote...i did this survey once with some pals and we had to rank a list of items according to how we valued them in life. I ranked "a sense of accomplishment--lasting contribution" rather high on my list and why probed why, blurted out that "because i want to be remembered.i think it's sad that no one remembers you when you die"

my peers laughed, i got embarrassed and my surveyor had the audacity to ask me how i felt by their laughter...
