“It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood”
sung softly with a smile
a warm sweater and comfortable shoes
and the offer to sit awhile

he taught us how to accept others
how to share our lives with grace
he opened his door to anyone
with a welcoming smile upon his face

I hope his creed will still live on
Now that he’s no longer around
And as Mr. Rogers passes on
Hear the tears of the Trolley’s sound

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (CNN) -- Television's "Mister Rogers," the cultural icon and kindly neighbor to generations of American children, died Thursday at the age of 74.

Fred Rogers died at his home in Pittsburgh after a brief battle with stomach cancer, according to a spokeswoman for his production company. He is survived by his wife Joanne Rogers, their two sons and two grandsons.

OMG! Oh this is too sad..
My children and grandchildren grew up watching Mr. Rogers.
He taught the kids so much in the way of kindness, giving and even science.
It is indeed a sad day in the neighbourhood.
May he rest in peace.
Thank you Sharon for this tender tribute.

Oh, I always liked Mr. Rogers and the values he taught the children. I enjoyed watching him with my daughter.

Yes, he will be missed very much.

Sharon, this is a very good tribute you have written for him...

His gentle smile was such a relief from the frantic tone of most kids shows then. I watched him even when my kids didn't! He was also a minister and spent his life in service to others.

Dear PDV - Yes, it is a sad day in the neighbourhood. I remember watching with my daughter, and how the bell for the Trolley would take us both to a magicland of make - believe. He and his gentle ways will be missed. I am putting this into my library as a rememberance. Thankyou. hugs, Chris

My children were raised by their mom, their dad---& Mr. Rogers! I thought that he would live forever but it seems that God wanted this angel to return to heaven--his mission on this earthly plane had been completed.

My daughter dreamed of him last night and when she awoke this morning she heard on the radio of his demise.

Thank you for writing this for our dearly beloved, Fred Rogers. God bless.

It is indeed a sad day in the neighborhood. A beloved man has gone on to entertain in God's neighborhood of Heaven. He will be sorely missed by the young and not so young.

Hugs Mr. Rogers ....

Yer right, Martie. At one point I had a choice of following a guy named Fred Rogers, or a beer-joint cowboy named Buzz True....

I took the one less traveled by.... having been shown that it was possible.

(big hugggssssss) Oh Sharon, when I was a little boy, I never wanted to miss a single episode of Mister Rogers because he taught me so much and he has a golden heart I wish every man could give to his children, and I still watched the show with my sister every day I'm home to watch it! (sad sigh) He truly is an angel and I only pray his words of giving are never forgotten, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sharon, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

I'm so glad you wrote this Sharon.
I read the CNN article earlier today.
He will most definitely be missed by many.
