Inside the shadow's shadow

0 posted 2003-02-15 04:22 PM

There is a secret pond I know
Atop a secret hill
Nestled in a secret land
Where the wind and air is still.

The secret pond is a magic pond
It knows every single wish
That every being ever made
Inside it swim no fish.

I once dared to look into that pond
To see what I might find
And instead of finding my reflection
I found one more refined.

A little girl, just ten years old
Staring blankly back at me
She whispered something oh, so quiet...
She had whispered "Set me free"

My face then twisted in confusion
Yet I yearned to help, console...
A blank yet saddened look she gave me...
As if someone stole her soul.

I timidly touched the water surface
And not to much surprise
That little girl, she disappeared,
With a sad, despair-filled cry.

Perplexed, I headed down the hill
To continue in my day
But that little girl, she stayed with me,
In my mind- she didn't stray.

Little did I know, back then,
That little girl was me-
Or rather she was the little girl
That hide's inside of me.

Burned too often to come out,
She stays hidden in her shell.
Engulfed in flames and teardrops mixed,
She stays hidden in her hell.

And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair. -Kahlil Gibran

Fascinating read, but why would the little girls within us dwell in hell? Let her come out to play as often as you can and you'll set her free!

Sadly...it's not quite that easy...

I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly dreaming I am a man.

Are you sure this poem wasn't derived from MY LIFE?? I really loved the honesty and how open you are here! And THIS part....
"Burned too often to come out,
She stays hidden in her shell.
Engulfed in flames and teardrops mixed,
She stays hidden in her hell."

I KNOW ALL TOO WELL
Beautifully done....Hugs...

KoKo, this poem touched me deeply. You have a beautiful way of expressing yourself and bringing the reader along as you tell your fascinating tale.

The little girl in me says "hello" to the little girl in you!--Would you like to come out and play?

Warm hugs,
Earth Angel

Koko I am sure you know what I am thinking right now
Do I need to say it?
Big BIG fan of yours.
I loved that this made me think back of my younger days (not that I am old or anything haha)
Great visions you produced here.
