Vichyssoise
By: Noah Eaton
3/26/03

Your face I still recognize
How you predicate your honest image
Back as long as I can remember
It’s been eight long years since
I saw you standing there
At the gates of the closed amusement park
You wanted to ride the Rainbow
Even now I still see the ferris wheel horses in the rubble…

There is a numbing feeling you can’t explain
Condensed and concentrated but never microwaved
Like cold soup for the simon-pure teenage soul
Who’s kidnapped by Simon Legree and locked in Uncle Tom’s Cabin

You said you wanted to run away
But like a plastic bag in the wind your intentions began to fade
Since the day you were wronged and raped
Sometimes I can’t believe I remember your name…

In that back pocket the turmoil seems to escalate
Every prayer struggles to interpellate
And the mountains seem to take you as a slave
Why must the victim have the price to pay?
Why must the victim have the price to pay?

This town I still recognize
But everything seems to change
All the walls are closing in
The reservoir is disappearing by the minute
Your brief smile is all too familiar
With exception to the snaggletooth
There’s a snake in the grass
I don’t understand who could set it loose…

There is a petrifying feeling you can’t comprehend
Overweening ambition that can’t ascend
You praise but it all seems to amount to nothing
In the end…

Between feeling ignominious and knowing you didn’t deserve this
You seem to underestimate what’s beyond this ignis fatuus
I just want to scream, “Good God, it’s been too long,
Are you the same or could it be I am different?

In that back pocket the turmoil seems to escalate
Every prayer struggles to interpellate
And the mountains seem to take you as a slave
Why must the victim have the price to pay?
Why must the victim have the price to pay?

Yesterday I walked through the abandoned amusement park
Found pieces of the Rainbow scattered about in the remains
Missed the same bus more than once realizing
I can’t clear your name…

Noah - you are writing with more depth than I've see you do before. Another of excellence...

Good Lord Noah - an entirely new edge here . . . the amusement park and the incident are amazing comparisons - like a soul lost?  This is heartwrenching and sorry it had to be written but glad that you did . . . through pain we heal and I hope it helped - it touched my heart tonight . . .  xxoo

Noah, a comparisson here that brought tears to my eyes and a pain to my heart. Lost and left in ruins was what I got from it.

This was an outstanding piece of writing.

Hugs for peace sweetie, Marti

I completely agree with BC's response... you've always shown us excellence... but this reaches new levels... the depth and the maturity and compassion all contribute to an astounding whole... and the metaphor is wonderful! *S*

I was in awe reading this Noah, just outstanding, I wish I could write in such a way that you can, since i was here at this site regularly last, i can see the great improvement in writing which i didnt know was possible because you wrote so beautifully before.  I really like your new style.
