Sunday morning means the chance to glean through the local news
search for articles of 'immediate interest' in the columns
I wonder if it does matter
I mean the world has so many heads in crowds
so many women draped in shrouds
so many mouths to feed
countless hearts that want to bleed
from the many bodies there are to clothe
there are equally fewer with complete wardrobes
from the many more calloused feet to slip into footwear
more chances for low wage earners to swing into despair
disporportionate amount of truly happy people
so many chances of singing the blues...
yet I ask what's new in the news..

I look for my survival among the pages
my name is not mentioned..I am one of the faceless you see
I wonder if it all matters,
I mean to search the news for a bit of banter.
I look for a place to rest my eyes
find a something new...a pleasant surprise
anything but my own obituary
that can wait can't it?
after all I am looking for news
thinking anything and everything outside myself
but I am wrong.

I am a newsmaker even in my own small manner
and I can carry a torch and wear a banner...
for I am not insignificant..least to myself
but live in a world where our attention
is shifted to the 'greater interests'of mankind
which really owes itself to people that push
the machinery of every working town, into gear
humbug
so many chances of singing the blues
sifting the pages, in search of some 'news'.

Martin, this is really a true poem.
The newspaper can be depressing, can't it?

(sad sigh) It seems "news" just isn't news anymore, it's more like the obitiuaries like you say! You can almost predict the first page will have something about Bush and war, with the story coninuing on Page 16A or 24A, then have on Page 2 news about gunfire in the Middle East, and Page 7 has crises in the world, etc. (sad sigh) Even more depressing is how our information is squeezed like skim milk, the media only tells us what they want us to hear and it is betrayal! (sad sigh) This is quite poignant, sweet friend, you have my vote, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Martin, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Noah,

Yes the 'news' is like a cup of skim milk..not intended as nature would provide us...it's up to us to read from alternative sources.

How I used to collect articles for a scrapbook...and I would do the same but to see what's missing or exaggerated. Thanks for sharing

Martin,
I like how you
put yourself into
the daily news.
Nice, very nice. *s

Hello Doreen,

Paradoxically I am making 'news', and what I do is not always new. What counts is what I do for myself and those close to me though..these are reflections that can also be those of many many readers like yourself. Thanks for sharing

Martie,

Just tough to accept...and what would we be without some large threat on the front page...it's almost as if the news has to find it

I believe I know what you mean!
Being the highly sensitive and emotional person that I am, I have to take occasional news fasts and withdraw from reading or watching the news...otherwise I'd be sick!--sick at heart. I know that in order for us to help change the world, we must stay abreast of what is going on, but lately I have been retreating from it and have been trying to heal the planet and mankind's spirit in my own way....abracadabra! There, that should help! tehe

Sending love, Light & prayers,

Linda

It seems very gloomy of me but when I  read the newspaper in print or online ..the first thing I read are the obituaries...always have for years...making sure I don't miss any friends or family of friends.

I hate to sound like my head is in the sand, but I gave up newspapers last year, and I mean it - now you know this is must have a spot in the book I hope?  That I will read.
