One eyed Jake
and Mule Eared John
are cowboys down
from Texas way,
they ride the trail,
the Chisholm Trail,
on a cattle drive,
north every day,
to Abiline on the Smoky Hill,
trailhead of the Kansas plains,
dawn to dusk
in all kinds of weather,
searing heat and pourin' rains,
rattlesnakes and Kiowas
seemed kind of tame
when a longhorned steer
paws the ground
and stares you down;
Texas longhorns
ain't got no fear.
Eatin' Cookie's beans
and cold hardtack,
a chef that ole codger surely ain't,
but food is food
when a cowboy's starvin';
cowpokes don't need
their vittles quaint,
thirty bucks a month their pay,
our cowboy duo
ain't strikin' it rich,
Riding drag and eatin' dust,
plumb tuckered out,
their lives a bit..
monotomous just ridin' and starin'
day after day
at a longhorn's tail end,
as they ride the trail,
the Chisholm Trail;
to Abiline wend, trail's end,
yep, you heard me
THE END.

Did you read Justice Nuss' article, January 2000 [or was it 1999?], I believe, in the KBAJ?  Story about the Dewey-Berry war...you'd enjoy the read, Sir...I guarauHNtee...

Just as I enjoyed this!
