(This is a song I wrote for Poetry Against The War Day on Wednesday! I performed this as part of the festivities at the University of Colorado, which I was inspired it write it upon a visit to an American Muslim community center to console with those there and to offer them comfort during the trauma in the world, and he shared with me a traumatic vision which now I weaved together with my thoughts! )

Haashim's Song
By: Noah Eaton
3/5/03

A young boy
Steps out onto his front porch
Swears he saw the ghost of Badr Shaker
Staring through the bars at the local prison
Where he saw
Jaikour crumbling down in flames
Said "So now I've seen it all,
In a city without rain!"

"Two balconies
From which the moonlight recedes"
Implode from these houses
Where the soil is soaked with the blood of the Hadith
This waste land
Is never how it used to be
And there seems to be no sign
Of God's designated repository

Haashim, close your eyes
Blind them so you can't see
The big red schism
Bleeding upon these streets
Haashim, close your eyes
Blind them so you can't see
The big red schism
Bleeding upon these streets

Books in the libraries
Dilapidating through each day
Ever since these sanctions
Tarnished the embargo in this place
With philosophers fingerprints
Etched on the corners
Perishing with their mortality
Lying in their graves without slumber

In every speechless Imam
And each undisciplined shaykh
He can see the cancer
Rendered deep in their colorless thoughts
Breakfast table
Without a pitcher of milk
And his mother lying sick in bed
Suffering from malnutrition, her eyes stinged with helpless guilt

Haashim, close your eyes
Blind them so you can't see
The big red schism
Bleeding upon these streets
Haashim, close your eyes
Blind them so you can't see
The big red schism
Bleeding upon these streets

When he sees his people
Ascertaining each others identity
He can't believe
THAT NO ONE RECOGNIZES EACH OTHER ANYMORE APPARENTLY

Haashim, close your eyes
Blind them so you can't see
The big red schism
Bleeding upon these streets
Haashim, close your eyes
Blind them so you can't see
The big red schism
Bleeding upon these streets
HAASHIM, CLOSE YOUR EYES
Blind them so you can't see
The big red schism
Bleeding upon these streets
Haashim, close your eyes
Blind them so you can't see
The big red schism
Bleeding upon these streets...

"Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..."

Shakira

Full of heart and soul...a well sung song!
Thank you for sharing your sense of social consciousness--and shedding light on things we do not see...

Peace be with you and yours,

Just excellent like your others.

Sometimes Love is like awkward poetry, the words may not be just right
but when love comes freely from the heart the message sings!
