Phone heavy in hand
Fever, cold, sore, joints ache
but this...this...is
infinitely more painful

Dial tone screams in ear
each number
a tolling death bell
..a ring..a sigh

THE voice kicks in
vampires couldn't drain
me as fast as this
"Let me guess, you're not coming..
I knew you'd call sick sooner or later.."

I want to yell
for not believing
I want to yell
how lucky he sees me at all
I want to yell
and remind him
of what keeps me away
when i'm not sick

But I just laugh
and hang up instead
sputtering in cough
marvelling at a man
who will never get it..

Aenimal - I know too well that choked forced silence and sputtering of words that never want to leave your lips but do - only because they must . . . my heart to you - as always amazing xxoo

I swim in your poetry
like it's a cool ocean on a summer day
in the dead heat of Florida

People do not get love, the people who do;  sitting here alone, waiting for the one that does.

I understand but from a different perspective...they don't make Mother's Day cards for my mother. I get it.

I cannot count the many times I have noted, how blessed I was to have parents who were
unconditional in their acceptance of me, even
in my mistakes...

Raph?  I'm sorry...
