I thought about you last night.
I can’t forget the sound of the click.
It wasn’t the door closing shut.
It was your heart..

I can’t forget the look in your eyes.
I looked into them....and I saw it.
Something that I had feared, still do.
I saw nothing....no emotion at all.

Couldn’t you see my own eyes?
The sadness, emptiness, loneliness.
The despair of knowing that it is...
It is...finally...over..

I sit by the phone...silence chilling
I check my email...no new messages
The red light on my comp...are you there?
The unanswered pleas, not heard.

Can it truly be the end, the final moment?
When a heart, once strong...stops..
When gray of night covers a lover’s moon?
When no shadow walks beside again.

The walks on the beach, holding hands.
Kisses, more kisses, passionate embraces.
Hot flames burning between us, now cold.
Our tide now out, a bare ground before me.

You are my eternal love, my devotion.
I shall carry you, your memory always.
I shall not cry, for I know you are safe...
No anger will cross my lips..

Goodbye my love, for I have a memory
I have cherished moments, words...letters.
I have all of this and so much more...
For...even after I am gone...you have my heart...

Well this reaches out and tugs hard...so I must still have my heart, for I felt it break...

Magnus, that first stanza is so touching, it grabs the reader into the poem which continues to be powerful, yet soft, heartfelt and bittersweet. I love this. floria

We tend to look back on such moments, such thoughts when we may find ourselves lost to Love's possibilities.
In a word, each thought, each line, ... such love ... can only be "endless".

Magnus darling boy this is a heart wrenchingly ache, not bitter, not cruel but that feeling you have when you give someone your heart and they don’t cherish it. You write beautifully as always the flow is divine and the structure is flawless, I doubt if you could write a bad poem if you tried. Fabulous darling boy utterly utterly fabulous.

Oh gawd Barry!  Pull yourself together...you'll be okay...and besides, it's just a poem, right?  I sure hope so!  In fact I know so!  I like to write like this at times..well, most of the time..I enjoy challenging my mind. LOL...
Good write my friend,

wonderful..I have felt this more than once this year..
Can it truly be the end, the final moment?
When a heart, once strong...stops..
When gray of night covers a lover’s moon?
When no shadow walks beside again

nicely done, Magnus

Magnus - Dear Sir you had me hook, line and sinker with these few words. Amazing poetry here. Chris

Mangus
I feel that you have captured all of the heartache, pain, and emptiness in your words.  Many of us have felt this pain, it is very hard to put this pain into words and you have done just that.  Bravo!  Excellent write - one for my library.

Magnus,
I've never been glad that a muse takes a holiday but I am glad yours did, even though your write wrenched my heart and grieved my soul.

I must say, Barry...that I really like this new muse of yours.  You write beautiful and heart rending free verse.

Can it truly be the end, the final moment?
When a heart, once strong...stops..
When gray of night covers a lover’s moon?
When no shadow walks beside again.

this is exactly how I felt after my first husband's death.
thanks for sharing.
