Upon this vast and brooding sea,
Adrift in search of sanity,
On timbered deck stands weathered mast,
Shrouded sails; night's shadows cast.
I cry out in anquished plea,
Release my soul; scream, set me free!
I grasp as straw, night's solitude,
Whil'st stand alone in dark's delude,
Do not condemn this helmless ship,
For she is caught in viselike grip,
Of darkest depths of melancholy,
In swirling eddies of man's folly,
Crashing waves of hope's despair,
Drowning voice of mortal's prayer.
Ensconced in chill as stillness wanes,
I sail alone; night's darkness reigns.

Tim

Such a dark and desperate place in this poem..so very well done.  You slide up and down so well from humor to despair in your poetry...you must wear calluses on your palm.  Hugs!

I must admit I laughed out loud when I saw your reply Martie...  but I am too much of a gentleman to go there...*smile*
in any event, glad you liked and I do try and move around a bit with my poetry.

Oh my...here I was gonna wax poetic over your select meter, and perfect flow, and then I have to contemplate calloused palms?

(I am trying SO hard to be good, here!)

I loved the poem, Tim, but you are right, that IS a classic reply from Martie!

Well done, Sir!  Though I am currently landlocked, my soul has met the sea in many ways, and you've brought me to the shore again with this Keeper...

Incredible. Love this - title caught me and the body didn't disappoint. It's refreshing (irony there, huh?) to see this type of intelligent, dark, introspective/aware poetry done so well.

Peace,

Christopher

I appreciate the responses. Most often there is an inverse proportion of replies to the amount of effort I exert in writing a poem.
Glad you enjoyed.
