                         Shattered

The image of the footprints that you left upon my soul…
The emptiness and agony, no longer am I whole.
You and your damned indiscretions, you never had enough,
I once was soft and feminine, yet now I’m hardened and tough.
With the trust I placed upon you, you made the choice to deceive.
Now all the words you speak to me, why should I believe?
The walls I built for protection, crumbled at my feet…
And all the dreams, I thought we shared, diminished to deceit!
Through sleepless nights I’ve pondered, where did I go wrong?
The pieces of the puzzle remained, but where did they belong?
The anger rages on throughout this chapter of my life,
When just a few short months ago, you requested I be your wife.
Yet, in your other secret life, you made the same request,
If someone hadn’t told of such, I never would have guessed.
I kept my word… my promise that I made to you that day,
Forsaking all temptations that crossed my path, along the way.
I wanted so much to hurt you and let you taste my pain,
But then, I thought more clearly, what ever would I gain?
As days passed by, I realized you were in your personal hell,
The discussions continued for hours, with more and more to tell.
And in all our years of involvement, feelings still to learn,
Deep inside, the love to give, you never bothered to earn.
What all these desolate secrets have revealed upon the end,
Are the sorrow I feel deep within of the loss of my best friend!

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown

I love to see a poet who makes such good use of rhyme and meter. You did that very well here, miss.

Also, your theme gives one much to consider. It's true that the "guilty" one goes through his own hell in instances like this, even though he created it. I think most of the time the woman will say, "Yes, I know he's in pain, too....but I want to be the one to hurt him!!!" LOL! The lady in your poem does not appear to be like that....rather simply feeling a deep sadness for the loss of the friendship that went with the love. In that I agree....the loss of friendship and trust is much more devastating than the loss of love. Geez, you got me rambling here...it MUST be a good poem!

I know...I know....Broken trust and an ended frienship are so painful. Well done.

My Dear Fellow Writers,

How ever can I thank you for such warm replies?  And, in a time they are much needed.  I am only sorry to say that too often I roam around in the forums, but neglect to reply to some of the great pieces that you have also shared.  Please know that the thoughts are there and how much I truly admire the work that is penned within these forums.  Thank you all so very much.
