~* Warning To A Hostess Named Nan *~
or,
~* There's A Light On - Is Anyone Home? *~

I’m planning on going to Cape Cod next week.,
I’ve been practicing to behave myself.
I’m not sure they’re ready for us Canadians,
so I picked up a "Miss Manners" book on a shelf.

It says not to do a lot of things that I do,
and I find its advice all too confusing.
I wonder if the person who wrote that book
realizes how much of life they are loosing?

It says, “Never speak until you are spoken to.”
Imagine how quiet the world would be,
if everyone heeded that advise…
There'd be no conversation you see?

“Don’t ask for second helpings at the table.”
Well up here we are hurt if you don’t!
I guess in the States they go to bed hungry,
and just listen to their stomachs groan?

“Ask for permission to hug someone first.”
Well doesn’t that advise beat all?
Canadians are known for their ability
to get you and hold you in their thrall.

“Add 15% to the bill – pre tax when dining,
depending on its five star rating.”.
No wonder I have seen waiters down there
standing with their hand out and waiting!

We reward service according to service,
so if they forget the butter and bun,
spill the water, or get the order wrong,
well we simply burp and give them none!

This book leaves out the human factors,
like the laughter, and people sharing.
Maybe after its author goes on a real trip,
He’ll do book 2, called, “Are You Caring?”

The garbage collectors came this morning,
And I greeted with them a genuine smile,
as they drove away, one fished out that book,
I wondered how soon 'til it was back in the pile?

It doesn’t matter where you travel in this world,
The language and customs of love are all the same.
I think our problem is we read too many books,
and I for one think that's a real shame.

So Nantucket here I come just like I am,
A bubbly kind of girl, some say a little insane,
You’re stuck with me, but hostess that you are,
Remember you don’t HAVE to invite me back again!

~*~

Nan...did you see what the name of this lighthouse was?
LOL, I am killing myself laughing here!
Oh I feel so sorry for Kit sharing a seat back with me,
and Kit you still have time to change your ticket

The pursuit of truth and beauty is a sphere of activity in which we are permitted to remain children all our lives.

Sharon

You don't need to read Emily Post
To know how to treat good hearted host
Just be youself and you will know
How much we all do love you so

Just do as you do, and do as you can
Don't take your advice from a garbage man

Have a wonderful and safe trip!
And don't take your whole wardrobe!
Love ya

~* For My Other Hostess With The Mostest *~

Now Liz gets a week of me too,
visiting her in Pennsylvania.
Wait a minute, the directions here,
say I'm heading for Transylvania!

I bet those two talked to each other
and think I'm more than they planned on getting,
I hope this is just a typo,
at least that is what I'm betting?

I'm going to bring my roller blades,
and pull Liz around on my skateboard,
now even I am laughing now Liz,
that is a funny picture, oh Lord!

Relax, I'm only kidding honest!
even going to leave my baseball hat with Nan,
I've been really practicing,
I can be a lady, I know I can!

Sea and Seymour - thank you for coming to add to the fun!

Munda ~ Trust me she will be too tired to give you a hard time!  Next year we are thinking of having it in Vegas!  Yippee!  You will have to come and let the Americans take your money like they are taking .62 on every dollar of mine :eek

Balladeer ~ I get the tips!  Remember who is doing the cooking?  That was the deal, I cook someone else does the dishes. hehe it's going to be a good time!

I heard it is a naughty-cal town!  It's too late to back out now, I am packed and ready to cause trouble and get them into some serious mischief.

Kit ~ There were be chairs on the deck for the party poopers too, and it would take more than Liz to calm me down.

Zinsser ~ Maybe next year more will attend as it is hopefully going to be in Las Vegas (oh no! no Wayne Newton pahleeze!)  I think it would be fun to get 1/4 of a cruise ship and do a Passions cruise, now how neat does that sound?

I didn't know we had to practice
manners there in ole cap cod.
I fear I haven't packed them with me;
I seemed to misplace them, Ain't that odd?
I hunted through my drawers all last night
And searched my cupboards high and low.
No matter what, I couldn't find them.
Does this mean that I can not go?
Oh surely there are friends amoungst us
who'll 'scuse my small town, backwoods way
so I can visit all the poets
up there near New England bays.
I wonder what they'll think about me,
I really am a bashful sort.
And with some of dear Passion's brightest
for a full week I will cohort.
I've already started packing.
Nan, Sharon, Liz...it is too late.
Your stuck with me, no turning back now.
Horray for Cape Cod...I can't wait!!!!!

Sharon...looking forward to my week in the cape. Believe it not, I really am shy at first, but I'm anxious to meet everyone

LOL. Getting closer!

Victoria Thanks we are going to and you best come next year.

Ha! Karilea and Suthern you may have ghosts about you, Kit has to do her scheduling from there, and I have promised my granddaughter I will send her something for her Daddy to read her, so that makes two of us, and I can't see a couple of other not sneaking to use the computer either, because as you know this place is addictive at time.

My guess is, I will wait ...
Until the night before I leave,
I've too much on my plate!

Just promise me, dear ladies,
That if all my staff protests,
That you will KITnap me,
And fly me out to NaniNess!

Oh how I envy you all getting together.
Every night I see the light of our lighthouse flashing. I'll see if there's a pic of it, it's quite a famous one.
Yep, found it, see for yourself, it's the one called Westkapelle (that's the village, the lighthouse is called Brandaris)

(this is the site of a local artist here and so to see he has painted them all)

Have fun, don't need to say that actually

Sharon,

In the Deep South we don't have rules.  We just do our thing and we all get along.  Oh, and by the way, "y'all" is a Southern expression. LOL!  Have fun using it.   I hope y'all have such fun getting together.  Nice poem, as always.
