I can not pretend today.
I can't imagine you're still here.
But somehow I can't comprehend
a world without you near.

I look the same--
my voice unchanged--
my days go on in the same way...
But only half of me remains
in pantomime of yesterday.

Solaced words are meaningless,
although intent is kind.
I pray to dream a dream of you--
to see you one more time.

And yet I lie awake at night
afraid that I might sleep.
I fear I will dream dreams of you,
and wake again to weep.

I won't say goodbye again.
I can't leave you twice.
I sleep-walk through a day's pretend,
and bury you each night.
