Conquering Need

I could have made love to you last night,
instead I loved myself.
I caressed the softness of my thoughts
with memories of you,
inviting the best of you
to share the best of me.
You tempted me, teased by words
playfully mocking
the woman I am.
And I, as always,
enjoying, sometimes being the decoy,
luring you, unknowingly, with my wiles.

Each maneuver controlled.
My objective? To stage a coup...
A masterstroking of my soul.
To reach deep inside,
find that tenderness,
that belies all pain,
find that treasure within
and ascend to happiness once more.
