Primly folded hands in lap
Dainty hankies crisp in fold
Thoughts suppressed to please
‘don’t be so clever or bold’

Follow that little girl over there
With hair of gold and sunny smile
Make your mommy proud of you
I’ll make it worth your while

Nice girls get the best in life
You’ll see when you are older
So practice being sweet, my pet,
Don’t practice being bolder

Suppress those feelings if you can
And keep your hankie clean
Vanilla blue is the color for you
Speak little and don’t be seen

Nice poem, but very politically incorrect,
This fits well with my age, but the modern age doesn’t want sweet girls,
And seen not heard. Tsk tsk on you,
You sprout Female oppression

Keep up the good work

did I mention I liked it

reminds me of that scene in Titanic, where the mother is teaching the little girl manners....and the older girl (Kate) looks at her with pity.....

Nothing like I thought, from the title. But very interesting. From the days when kids were seen and not heard. Good replay of the past.

I think this tends to have the opposite effect--I too, was taught to "not bang my own drum"---now I just bang everybody else's!!! ROFLMAO....love you for this one! See? Sisters are not just born, sometimes they are twins of creation!!!!

Oh, let the kid go outside and splash in the mud puddles. LOL!  Enjoyed this, Sharon.

PDV, you and I must be around the same vintage.....This poem reminds me of the way I was treated as a child.....of course it just made me rebel and act just the opposite.  I asked my husband if I should take a class in assertiveness training...and he said that I should teach it!

Absolutely first class poem!
