The Clambake

Dunes,
like college students on spring break,
appear to arrive in the south
wearing sparse attire
and exhibiting a proclivity
towards the carnival. Fickle by nature,
they generally settle out of the wind,
smoothing themselves to a calm that notions
behind a screen of driftwood.
Nonetheless,
come dusk they change,
withdrawing into themselves
as the sun plods west, a workman
heading for the swing shift.
Later, on the return trek,
the moon stops
then smiles to catch,
up and down the long, dark beach,
wherever it looks,
light
necking.
