At the End of My Rope

Scamper, scamper,
at the end of my rope.
Loving you, loving you,
trying to cope.

You keep me tethered,
to control at your whim.
You keep me tethered,
so you can draw me in.

You say, “It’s for the best,
you’re protecting, true.”
I wonder, sometimes,
if it’s better for you.

Just because I try,
at every chance I get,
to go under or over
your surrounding fence.

I only want to play
with forbidden fruit,
those crazy ol’ cats
in their pin-striped suits.

I’m just being myself,
isn’t that who you love?
I’m a dog to the world
and to your God above.

Should I be something I’m not;
would that be your choice?
Should I say what I don’t believe
or use my true voice?

It seems you would rather
take my undivided devotion,
yet keep me chained up
and bar my true notion.

Yet I’m bound to be true
to unconditional adoration
it’s my lot in life
I will curb my salivation.

This was inspired by the neighbor's dog who, in spite of being chained, scampers around the yard, exuberantly, happy faced grin, tongue salivating, as his mistress walks about seeking any needed 'chores' to do lying about the lawn. His twin doesn't have to be chained because he has better manners regarding the fence and the neighbor's cats (mine). *grin*

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

(giggles in delight) Awwwwwwww, if only that other dog can learn from the well-behaved one, then it will be set free to wander wherever it wishes and do all it wants in the yard! (giggles) I hope that time will come!!! (smiles) This is a funny and wonderful piece, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Virginia, thank you for sharing!

May love and light alwyas shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Thanks, Noah and nakdthoughts, you, too. That was my intent...as it could certainly be paralleled in all too many humans' lives. Well that is up to the target being a cat...the enticement could certainly occur, but the target would, hopefully, be different.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

This was wonderfull.... at first I thought it was about a human relationship or something but then.... I saw it was about a dog...  I can just see your cat too knowing the length of chain the dog has  LOL
