to my family, who didn’t
come to the wedding

what if they had
a life
and
no one came

all those
ruby glass
promises
scattered
across
the floor like
whorehouse
beads
after the
brawl

still throwing
rays
sprung
off the
living
room lamps
but
canting a’kilter
as the
lies
roll under
my heel

where did
the truths
go so
self-evident
egalitarian
with no
half-life

I want to go
out blind
into the fields
and ditches
drag in all
the ragged
sons of
bitches

and when it
is over
hand them
my name

Ed....this tears at me...family is such a hard word sometimes.  Even this poetic family has hard times and misunderstandings.  It's just important to keep at it.  A poem of feeling, real and human feeling.  I like that!!

Martie, I think you know that things are difficult for me right now....the reason I have started posting here rather than in Open.

I came just now to post another....but because of these kind and caring words, I hereby toast you with Pink Chablis....in Open, where it belongs.

Ed,
I'm glad you posted this. I feel your pain and know from personal experience how it feels. You said it extremely well. I wish you peace.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Here's a beautiful thing....at the very last moment things changed and they were all there,  except my parents, who are too old to travel so far.

So....maybe I'll sell this poem on E-Bay; surely somebody has a use for it!

I want to be out in those ditches... with power to ease such pain.

Families can give us such support... they can also choke the very breath from us. Most of all, they matter... and we need to know we matter in return.

This touches me more with every reading...

Busted!

I'm having fun at this....and BTW, for those who may be miffed at having their poems "buried" by my spree in here, take heart...ol' Ed put the links into an Excel file and sorted 'em old-to-new....to save the ones that were at the top when I started, so I can read them later and put 'em back up there when I start winding down!

I wrote something like this back in '97 when my mother died and I was aask by the family not to attend the funeral... Never did post it. To much hurt. To make it short, they disowned me. It's been 10 years now and I've still never heard from any of them. Worst of all I have no clues as to a reason why. I'm sorry and I feel for ya brother.

All my best, Dale

Speaking of ghosts, wouldn't you know here comes mine again...
