A blade of grass bending in the breeze
is less resilient than your spirit,
which I feel flies freely
in spite of your wounds,
all the restraints placed upon you
because of a careless move by another
on a highway so long ago.
You are a forever friend,
and although it’s time
for me to move onto another pathway,
I am thankful for the time we’ve spent together.
You’ve gifted me with many smiles,
so gracious and lovely they’ve often outshone
the warmest morning sunshine.
Thank you, Sue, for letting me be
your friend, and for giving me
the same friendship in return.

*for my friend, Sue*

That was a beautiful poem.  It is always nice to read poetry that reflects such friendships.

In some ways the poem sounds a little bit jisjointed stylistically in places.  For example, you begin the poem with a comparison/metaphor which quickly morphs into what sounds more like a matter of fact statement in the line "which I feel flies freely".  However, just after that line you move back into the figurative language very quickly.

On the whole, however, I enjoyed this poem.

there isn't really nothing to say except "beautiful"....the first two lines evoked such powerful imagery that spiced up the rest of this poem and made it memorable...i would have been happy to receive this one...heehee

I bet Sue loves this poem.. There's a beautiful feeling through this poem, and I reckon it can be captured perfectly with your line "You are a forever friend"..
A much nicer way of saying it than 'you are a friend forever', or 'you are forever a friend'.. Perhaps forever-friend should be hyphenated?

Your introduction is so loving..

Bless your cotten sockies, you poetic maniacs. ^_^

Love - Lynne
