A hand sharply lifted the blind
dust, cat hair…suddenly silver
in the sunlight
denied the sign
she rested against the window
crude, cold metal
black, white, red

Vacancy
all it said

Okay, I'll bite. You got me with this one. What the heck is it all about?

I don't understand it either, but in a way I do.

the imagery....the impact ...  the ache ...
this conjures up a scene from an old movie....
very cool write of imagery and metaphor poet sir.

Duncan,
If I am correct in my understanding of this piece, she is extremely lonely with a vacant heart. Beautifully sad indeed.

nice work Duncan.... a bit abstract perhaps out of context but not hard to build the scenario in your mind... I enjoyed!

(tears fall down my cheeks) I too felt a sign of loneliness behind these words, it sounds like she feels unloved and her heart is empty, just waiting for someone to climb into her heart and love her. (big hugggsssss) So sad but wonderful, sweet friend, we all love you so much, this is fabulous! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Duncan, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

This is probably the saddest poem you've written my friend, really touched me.

Whatever the intent, the result is an emotional write of great loss and pain, and intense loneliness. I sense that someone left, and she is still hopefully awaiting their return, which never comes.  Well done, Duncan.

it's very intense, left me (and it took a few reads, I'll admit)
with a raw feeling like when you are out in the cold rain
and the sign says "vacancy" nothing makes  you feel
so cast out.  That's the feeling I got from it.

*sigh* I know this may sound strange but this poem gave me a feeling of a woman wanting to hear from the one she loved but when she didn't she felt empty inside...Very interesting poem...it sure touched me in a strange way. **big hugs**

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.
