The sleeping poet tosses
poetically from side to side,
in rhythm and in rhyme
throwing all covers aside.

What words caress this dreamer’s mind
In a midnight fantasy?
What wonders of form and verse
will be written for all to see.

Perhaps the sleeping poet
never really dreams at night.
But pens his dreams as poems
when the morning sun is bright.

So tiptoe round the poet
if you see him in repose.
He’s not really sleeping, but,
struggling to compose.

And then there's the pen and notebook at his bedside, handy for scribbles when the rhymes shake him into temporary consciousness with their insistence on being remembered. LOL

And don't non-sleeping poets just READ poetry? *innocent look* Am I missing something??? LOL

Great work, PDV... I enjoyed it immensely.

Indeed the poet's sleep may be
creative energy, but still
at times his rest is like the dead,
which resurrects to drive on still

Very nice poem Divine.  I especially like the last two stanzas which seem to flow very well.  Poems about poetry are always such challenges and I think you're done yourself proud with this one.

Oh yes, I love this poem very much, the words flow so well and with such rythym...and I love poetry about dreams. Sometimes at night when I have trouble falling to sleep, poetic thoughts come to me and when that happens, I have to get up and make notes. This poem reminded me of a haiku I wrote.....Dreams sculpted in sleep
            Visions carved in memory
            Shattered by reality

amazingly accurate and perceptive.  The images that burn until transposed,
the sleep left unattended until the poem takes form.

Truly enjoyed this, PoetDevine.  Taut writing.  yeppers  tSR
