                      Cried Myself Awake

I’ve cried
myself awake
from tender
empty nights
and the dawn
of daylight
that offered
no invites

there once
was a time
I cried
myself to sleep
remembering promises
that just
wouldn’t keep

too much of me
to give
and feel so
all alone
so much
to know
and nothing
being known

today as I leave
my bed
the light
draws me near
the dust
of old dreams settle
sight focusing
to clear

today I
change my sheets
the tear stained
sorrows I take
the time
for mourning over
and I have
cried myself awake

"I have already paid for all my future sins."  Sade...(King of Sorrow)

*sigh* such pain and sadness in your words today...I could not help but feel the tears falling as I read this poem....My heart goes out to you, for you are suffering deep hurt..**big hugs** I pray the pain will not last too long and that healing will fill your heart soon.

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

Helen - your sadness comes through your writing. But inside a spark waits. You write with grace, and they are excellent...

Helen - You have cried - I can only hope you are now looking up, because looking down is not in your spirit, is it?

Sad, but not without hope. There is determination in your words. Excellent!

Helen, thank you for sharing this with us. I am very familiar with crying myself to sleep. Yet til now, the light of dawn has not beckoned to me with warmth. I still dread the loneliness I feel. I hope one day I will wake up, and change my 'tear-stained sheets' the way you did.

This is one of the saddest writes I've read in quite some time.  Hope you are ok.

I believe that tears are a cleansing of the soul. Take heart sweet poet. Chris

(tears fall down my cheeks) Oh Helen, such sadness fills your heart, sweet friend, my heart goes out to you! We all make promises we never keep and have these tears, but I know deep down all the tears will reflect the sunshine and hope and love will follow and you will smile and embrace a brand new day of comfort! (sigh) Always believe in your heart, sweet friend, we all wish you the greatest happiness and healing! (kiss on cheek) We all love you so much, sweet friend! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Helen, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

What a wonderful piece.  From a technical point of view I like the use of the juxipisition in the title and throughout the poem, but I also just like the poem in general. I really related to the emotions and it touched me.  Thank you for sharing

! slick_lady,
This was so sad, but perhaps everyone should experience such a wake up call.
