Castles Of Colors

How I love to walk
On the dried fallen leaves
The sounds of crunching I hear

Colors of brown, red and gold
Form a carpet so rich
The sounds are a tune to my ear

Rake them up in a pile
Like castles of colors
And then the children appear

As they tumble and roll
Through the piles of dried leaves
Their laughter filling the air

As the cold air approaches
Bringing winds that will sting
Say goodbye to these castles so dear
You'll not see them again till next year.

This brings about an image of the loveliest autumn. Really love the vivid descriptions.

What an original and brilliant metaphor!!

Most think of castles as "sand" but you've made them
into something wonderfully fresh and vibrant!

Irish Rose, that is because the children on the block were tumbling in the piles my husband had just raked up. I was at the window laughing so hard. They were having such fun.And the way he had piled them up, they looked like little castles. Of course this was a few months back. We have little castles of snow now LOL. thanks, floria

You describe well the most fun part of my favorite season. I just adore kicking the leaves as I walk. And watching my granddaughters jumping in  the piles..some of my best pics of them have been in the leaves.

This is beautiful, Floria....I love the way you use the imagery of the castle...and you are right, they do look like castles after the kids have rolled and jumped in them.
Autumn is my favorite of all seasons.
Thanks for sharing this with us.
