Humbled

I woke in alabaster dawn
Each object fully etched in white
With ice tipped pen so finely drawn
Across the woods and winter lawn
Each frosted limb in chill of night

The bare and bleak of woodland now
A wonderland of crystal trees
Covering the grays and browns
With sequin studded pearly gown
That covers my impurities

Through glass of window I recall
The colors that so freely tumbled
In the windy days of fall
I gazed in wonder and in awe
My weathered soul so deeply humbled

Crimson, gold all turned to somber
Grays of winter’s coming days
Hues and tones of pallet’s umber
Would the eye and heart encumber
Til this white and silver glaze

The face of nature ever changes
Even bleakness beauty holds
Life abruptly rearranges
And rewrites the silk white phrases
Hidden in a paper’s fold

Now the ivory mounds of glitter
Laid so softly on the earth
Cover memories cold and bitter
God bestows in throws of winter
This white dawn, my soul’s rebirth

Elizabeth Santos

If I EVER grow up, will you teach me please, how to write like this!?  The imagery is amazing, but I am not surprised, for only pearls fall from your pen...

Oh Elizabeth!  We had no snow on the ground to speak of and I feel like I am peering through your window to a Winter wonderland (which is my favorite thing).  You describe this well Lady Santos, and a scene such as you describe would change the coldness, hardness, and emptiness of any heart!  This picture is something I will treasure and keep, for it will not be long until the sight would be spring's slush. This was just the prettiest sight Elizabeth, and the heartwarming message sent within is being savoured as we are "humbled" in the bigger picture of our surroundings.

So wonderful, so vivid...I need to go look out my window again!.....

Elizabeth,
Absolutely fabulous. One of my favorites since I've come here. I love poems that are so lyrical that they sweep you along for the ride. Very well done.
