~* When Fairies Cried*~

Click link below to play music with the poem if you like.

play Shepherd's Moons by Enya

So long ago immortal fairies played
and danced in rings throughout enchanted green.
When man arrived their images would fade,
and only to believers were they seen.

The forest, then surrendered to the plough.
Large cities grew upon their sacred hills.
The fairy hearts cried for the here and now.
Their forest green now choked in sewage spills.

By grace of God, and by His holy hand
the fairies yet will play their ancient tunes,
for still enchanting, is their swirling dance
spun in the wake of man’s disgraceful ruins.

If you believe, you’ll hear the fairies’ word.
Where faith abides, their lyrics will be heard.

That, sweet lady Mysteria, is a most beautiful sonnet. Did I miss that in class or didn't you submit it there.

I think Nan will be very pleased to read this.

Sharon...this is magical...and I believe!

You don't have to be on a spiritual path
to believe in Fairies,
you just need to have a heart that can love...
to have just once in your life wished upon a star.

~* Thank you one and all for your lovely comments *~

I have to tell you I have great respect for anyone who can do a sonnet now, as I found this really difficult.  I just could not "get it together" and did at least 15 before one was right.  I come to read Elizabeth Santos work every day and now realize how easy this comes to some as hers are smooth as honey, and also how difficult it is for others, including me!  Titia sorry this is my very first time in a workshop and I just linked it to open, so I will know better next time and shash it in the workshop area. If you believe in fairies, you believe in magic, and magic is what dreams are made of.  Dreams can become goals and hence reality, so keep believing, for fairies do indeed exist. Watch where you step in your garden.  Hugs to you all.

Such a beautiful poem. I could see them crying as I read this.
"The forest, then surrendered to the plough.
Large cities grew upon their sacred hills.
The fairy hearts cried for the here and now.
Their forest green now choked in sewage spills....."

So much of our land is being polluted and decimated by human greed. Nature is slowly disappearing and it is heartbreaking. Thank you for your wonderful writing. The music and the graphic are perfect for the words. Hugs, Marti

I saw the talent quietly inside
and lo, your writings now decry
the winsome call of whippoorwill
and touches upon a fairy's thrill...

Ah, see what you do!

Thank you for reading this one as I put two of my favorite things together which are fairies and fighting city hall (truth on both accounts). I am so tired of them destroying and building on "my" mountain, I can just think what the wee folk feel!

Sunshine ~ Did I do that?  That was about the nicest response I think I have gotten this year!

Suthern ~ Honey I forgot, aren't the pictures pretty, and how about that music?  You have a tendancy to make me smile a non-stop smile, and I hope you are feeling a bit better gal.

I love this! Great job. Btw, did you know the assignment written for (and posted in) the Workshop can be submitted in an open forum too without being considered "double posting"?

No Munda I did not, thanks for the info!  However, I told Nan don't ever ask me to do another one of these again, my mind is all over the place, and to focus on 10 syllables and structured lines was agony, sheer agony! I have dyslexia, so keeping my typing right without spell check is also fun sometimes, lol. Thanks and I will tell Titia too.

Geesh - No wonder I can't find you - You're hiding over here in Open...

Since your early version, this work had become magnificent... It's splendiferous...

Your theme is great -  Your iambic pentameter is intact - Your rhyme scheme is perfect...

Overall, though - It's just a superb sonnet - Maybe it belongs on your site, eh???
