Ordinary Life (Ballad)

It’s just an ordinary song,
An ordinary verse,
About two ordinary kids
With Cupid’s common curse.

She’s not a princess, nor a queen
Beneath a wizard’s spell.
He’s just a boy right out of school
Who vows to love her well.

They know so little of the world;
But know they want to stay
As one, together for their lives,
Not only for today.

A year goes by, they have a son,
A handsome little boy.
They learn that family is life,
And love, and hope, and joy.

Another year, a little girl
Is added to the mix.
She’s cute and mischievous and wild,
And full of silly tricks.

The years pass by as swiftly as
The years are known to do.
The old folks sit at home and smile
At troubles they went through.

They lived an ordinary life
And savored it like wine.
I wish such simple love would come
To empty hearts like mine.

Nan

Nan, this is very beautiful. Wouldn't it be nice if life were so simple? Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, newell. I wrote it fairly quickly for me, so I must mean it.

Life is a wonder, it simply evolves
without question to the course it takes.
As some would say we're just along for the
ride, but I don't believe it for minute.
I like to think we all have a purpose
even if we never truly understand what
that purpose is.

I enjoyed your poem very much.

I always dream about finding mr right and having a huge wedding and the big house with the white picket fence...*sigh* I guess I am quite traditional!
I love your poem, and I hope you get out of life everything that you've ever wanted.

Dear Blues,
You may be right about a purpose in life. I hope you fulfill yours, and I fulfill mine, whatever it is.

Dear Rose Petal,
You have a wonderful dream, I hope it comes true for you.

Dear sp,
Thanks, boy. I liked writing it-it came quickly for me. I don't think I spent more than a couple of hours on it.

Dear Juanita,
Did I forget the dog? And the parakeet too. Just forgot to mention them I guess. Thanks for the perfect dog-he doesn't bark and I don't have to clean up after him.

Dear Sudhir,
Just the fact that people can make it through at all is extraordinary to me. Thanks for reading my little ballad and taking the time to comment on it. I appreciate replies.

A sweet beautiful poem, Nan...I sure hope that you find Mr. Right...and in your case, maybe he should be Mr. Write...And here he is, but it looks like today, he might have a case of Mr. Writer's block.

Dear Duncan,
Ordinary people are always special I've found. Of course, that's the only kind of people I know.

Dear Munda,
This is the first ballad I ever wrote. I'm glad you liked it. I guess I did it right.

Dear Skyfire,
That's really what it boils down to, isn't it? You like it or you don't. I'm glad you did.

Hi Nancy,

This is definitely touching and do feel those lonely pangs at times, life is not as simple as it could be but then I made those choices to travel and see the world and there's no going back.Would send you a pet too to keep the blues away, but a dog's enough now

Dear Kethry,
'extraordinary'? Moi?

Dear Marsha,
This was so good you had to say it twice? Right?

Dear Martin,
Yes, we make our choices, and all in all, I'm happy with mine.
