Eyes of One

Once again I tried,
my previous tied up thoughts
unraveling before me,
as I planned my steps
towards nightfall.
Disappointment
almost caved me in, timing,
always in wait of the drink.
Tears slowed, desire to please returned
and I continued on.

Gathered those close to him,
burnt 56 candles plus one,
almost melting the cake and more,
those not wanting to be gone in one breath,
returning to sparkle, and dance
the shadows in the dark.

He was there, and she was there,
two shes in fact, to tease him
into youthfulness,
as I sideline watched.
Someone turned to me, and said
they saw love in my eyes, each time
I looked his way.
Overhearing, he bent his head down,
I blushed, felt the heat rise,
turned towards the words
and let my eyes say it all.

"For it was not into my ear you whispered, but into my heart.
It was not my lips you kissed, but my soul."
(J.Garland)

I like your free verse, it followed one thought all the way through

Maureen, I love the feel and flow of this...of course I love free verse!
This is very beautiful and full of great imagery.  Well done!

Karilea...
I sort of like it myself, another diary entry
for me...some day I will look back on this
and maybe let out a smile instead of
a tear and a sigh.

Kay...yes, this was a follow up to the
all tied up verses...It was a very strange
evening.
((hugs))
Maureen

Nancy...I am not a free verse poet...
but some words and thoughts are not
meant to be rhymed..thank you for your kind words.*s

brian...I was just sending a message to a
friend...life is strange...my husband,
who is sort of estranged *s yet not,
is always near enough to help me when
needed, now.

My water heater is leaking, I joked,
it's sort of like me, after 21 years, it's
crying tears, too...knowing it needs
to be replaced.

Thank you
Maureen

The true feeling never goes away or should they? (Two views in one line must remember this.)But they are tucked within us to cherish at the right time smiling away in front of others.

Blessings and happiness.

Martie...eyes sometimes reveal too much, sometimes the love that won't be spoken and sometimes the dislike...for another. Thank you..I prefer the first.
M

D.Lester Young...I don't think the true feeling ever is lost..maybe it has changed  sometimes temporarily other times forever...
And I guess to cherish what one once had is the  best of the memory to keep.
thank you for your kind words.
Maureen

nakdthoughts - you write such words, ones of sadness that I read, but I have seen the spark. And it will prevail...

The last line is a KILLER!
The whoe piece speaks of fabulous poetic ability!
WOW!

Maureen, this is, in my opinion, your finest work.

You flatter me, I.  I am not  so sure this is a good piece of writing...and I am not sure  whether one gets the real meaning behind this poem or its last line..*s  Thank you for reading and responding
